I enjoy spoiling my cat, and that's a fact. When I go food shopping I peruse the cat treats wondering what he'll be in the mood for; mussels in a clam sauce? Turkey chunks in a light gravy? But he's a picky eater and sometimes he only drinks the juices of his canned food, or spits out the cat treats I buy him if they aren't hard and crunchy. He won't even eat chicken, and he's picky with tuna...So what do I do? What do you do if you have a picky eater feline friend that you want to spoil but who turns up his nose at store brand food and treats? You bake your own. It's easy, most of the recipes are simple, and lets face it...at any holiday where you give gifts buying something for your pets/friends pets is just plain cute. Why not make them homemade cat cookies shaped like cat faces? That'll cause a scream at any holiday party...here are simple recipes for making your own cat snacks!

Cat cookies [these make a fantastic present for any enthusiastic cat owner]

You will need:

1 cup of whole wheat flour

½ cup cornmeal

½ cup wheat germ

½ cup dried catnip (to make your cat more crazy, you can do a full cup)

1/3 cup canned tuna, drained!

½ cup of the juices from can

1 egg, whisked

Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees. In a bowl combine DRY ingredients and mix well...when you're sure everything is mixed add the remaining ingredients which will leave you with a fairly stiff dough. Mold into ball shape, and throw this on some wax paper, or a cutting board. Roll out to about ½ inch thickness, and cut into shapes! Hearts, cat heads, balls of thread..depending on your level of baking you can get craft. I myself would use plastic cut outs :) Bake on an un-greased cookie sheet for 25 minutes. Keep them stored in a tight plastic bag, in the fridge.

Salmon cat treats, yum yum!

You will need:

2 (smaller) cans of salmon (you can use other fish if you'd like!)

2 cups of oatmeal

½ cup whole wheat flour

1 cup cornmeal

1 egg

2 tsps of olive oil

1 cup chicken broth

Take all the ingredients and mix them together in a bowl – add more flour or broth to have a dough that's not too sticky. Roll out onto a thickness of ¼ and mold into shapes you'd like. Place on a non-stick baking pan. Bake at 325 for one hour, or until fully backed (everyones oven is different, normally I sit and wait for them to be done..just remember to keep an eye on the treats!) Store in an air-tight container.

My cats a fussy eater to. His rather old at 16 and has trouble eating any cat biskets we buy from the shops. So i either give him fish or canned wiskers food. Sometimes chicken and beef from our food. Not leftovers though. I love my cat some much and i appreciate the recipes on this website. Hopefully the biskets won't be to hard on his old teeth. Thanks
