Can I Really Build My Own Website?

I am here to tell you that you can build your own website. It really isn't that difficult. Really. You do need to know and understand certain concepts. The thought of creating a website can be completely mind boggling for many people. If you are like me, almost computer illiterate, it is downright scary. The satisfaction from building my own sites has been tremendous.

First, you need to know that there will be some costs involved. Nothing is free, right? These costs can be extremely minimal. You will need to purchase a domain name and hosting. A domain name is the actual name of your site. Part of the address you type to bring up a website includes a domain name. A web host is the server upon which your site will sit. Your site is viewable day or night because of your hosting service. How you want your website to look depends on the reason for your site. Do you just want to blog to discuss a topic? Do you want to have a business site? Are you interested in just getting some information to the public? Answer these questions and then you will know which kind of website to build.

The Book I Used Is Free On My Website

Niche? What's a Niche?

If your website is going to be a profitable site, you will need to choose a niche. A niche is the topic of your website. Ideally something you really know about. A niche can be anything from food to pets or health to actual physical products. Your topic may be cameras and if you drill that down further, you may have a site about photography. There is a never ending supply of topics.

Many people blog these days. Their web page is all about their life. It could include your work or family life. You could also blog about a topic of interest such as a hobby or your political views. Blog websites differ in that you keep adding new posts as often as you want. Business websites have static pages that don't change from day to day unless they are edited. If you do choose a website that you want to possibly earn money from, you will need to study keywords as they are pertinent to how your site will rank with search engines. Google and Yahoo are search engines.

When you have your niche, domain and hosting service, you will then be able to start physically building your website. There is a ton of information on the world wide web that you can research. The internet is still in it's infancy-there is plenty of room for all. After searching for several months, I came across a site that helped me with the technical side of publishing a website. You will be able to find many sites that can help you. Some are better than others and even offer free hosting. Remember I said earlier that there are a few costs involved in how to make a web page. Hosting usually is a fee that costs around $10 a month. The domain name costs under $10 to register and that will be a yearly fee if you keep that name. I have built two web sites and have purchased my domains for under $7. It can be cheaper if you are able to find coupons before purchasing your domain name.

What I have discussed above are the first steps to take when you want to make a website. Take a little time to search the basics and with that knowledge you too will be able to learn quick ways to make money through your site. Or just blog if that is where your heart lies. Either way, you need to create a site.

I will be building more sites in the future. It is rather easy to make a webpage if you know the basics.

A Little Info About Keywords, Domain Names and Hosting

Keywords can be just one word or a phrase. Almost any word can be a keyword. I mentioned food and pets above. Those are keywords. Keywords generally are descriptive words that tell readers what your website is about. Normally you will want to go into a certain category with your keyword. One word keywords are really hard to rank for. If you choose food, for example, your might want to have a website about recipes or wine. Websites about pets could pertain to dogs or dog collars. I have found it easier to use phrases. These are called long-tailed keywords. An example of a long-tailed keyword would be "how to take pictures" rather than just using the word "photography".

Domain names can be found on many sites. GoDaddy and HostGator are just a few places to check out when looking for domain names. NameCheap is another well known and often used site where people purchase their domain names.

Hosting is another area where there a many options available. Often times, you can purchase your domain name and web host all at the same place. GoDaddy and HostGator offer these options. I have purchased domain names from both of these sites but since I have free hosting, I had to transfer my name servers to my hosting company. This is very easy to do. When you purchase a domain name, it is important to keep the email from them. In that email will be your nameservers. If you choose to host elsewhere, you will need that so you can change the nameserver to your hosting service. May sound difficult but it is not.
