Wondering how you can make money with HubPages? Thousands are making anywhere from a few bucks to a few hundred bucks a month, some more, with HubPages. Learn how simple it is for you to do the same.

If you are hoping to make money online with HubPages, let me start by saying that HubPages is not going to be a quick income generator, unless you already have some skill in making money online. It will be more like a slow and steady pace wins the race type deal.

This Hub is a follow up to my previous Hub Learn How to Make Money with HubPages. While that page is somewhat out-dated, you can find some useful information there about article marketing and keywords. Better and more current information will be provided below. The absolute best way to describe what HubPages is and what a succesful and/or good Hub on HubPages is composed of, in my opinion, was done by Paul Edmondson when he said 'Evergreen Content.' After all, he's one of the masterminds behind HubPages! In Paul's exact words:

First off, let me start off by saying I am not confessing to be a 'make money on HubPages expert.' I am in no way professing to be a HubPages expert at all. However, as with most things I do, I've indulged myself in HubPages and tried to learn as much as I can about how HubPages work and how to create hubs; all the info that I can manage to cram into my brain without information overload. I will do my best to make this as much of a very informative information packed Hub as I can - and therefore will be linking to a lot of resources that will, hopefully, help curb your learning process. There is some great information in the HubPages FAQ's section and in the HubPages Forum. However, there are always some underlying tricks that are "unspoken of" that I will try to help you out with.

Since creating my first Hub over a year ago I have learned a lot about HubPages, watched the HubPages site and community grow, and also learned quite a bit about how to make money online. I used to be very active in the community but family and life got in the way and I have sort of been hiding for a while. But I have been also reading, learning, and working on other new projects online... Which is what brings me to this topic of how to make money with HubPages.

I know this is a huge question burning your mind as you read this. Most of us interested in making money with HubPages like to see what others are making to see if the opportunity is worth the investment. Since HubPages is free to join, the only investment we are talking about here primarily is time.

Some do not like to disclose their HubPages earnings, others don't mind sharing. I am one of the few who don't mind. I have been making money with HubPages since about 2 weeks after joining them and I have continued to see my income grow each month.

To date (04/17/09 - I've been with HubPages since January 2008) I've published 43 Hubs; I published my first Hub on Januray 09, 2008 titled Low Breastmilk Supply? - How to Increase Breast Milk Supply

What's funny is my first Hub is almost always one of my top performing Hubs. It usually stays close to the 90 percentile (give or take a few points). Unfortunately, it is not one of my top earning Hubs. I think I've figured out why I get a fair amount of traffic to it though and why it's not making me that much in income. I hope to share my results with you, in hopes it will teach you to do the same.

So back to how much money I make with HubPages. To date I have made:

11 signups from HubPages (using my Affiliate Tracking Links - this helps a little bit with AdSense earnings)

eBay: I changed my email address with the eBay partner affiliate network and can't login right now to check my earnings. I will update my eBay earnings shortly...

Google AdSense: $293.56

Amazon: $91.83

Kontera: $24.70

Other Affiliate Programs: (RME) $480

...for a whopping grand total of ....(drum-roll please)

$890.09!

So far I haven't made as much with HubPages as I'd like or as much as many of the other Hubbers have made. Take for example jimmythejock, who's Hub How to Make More Money with HubPages states that he makes an average of $300-$400 a month with HubPages. Then there are others, like Maddie Ruud, who makes over $1000 each month with just one make money platform that HubPages offers. (That's where I'm trying to get to!) Maddie tells you a little bit about how she does this in her Success on HubPages Hub. There's been great conversations, especially in the forums about how much you can make with HubPages and how to choose the right topics. One example of such discussion is What Topics Pay the Most on Here?

I'd love to see my earnings that high. But considering I've only created 43 Hubs so far, I don't think my income is that bad. One thing that I do think makes a difference is my HubScores and the topics I chose to Hub about. Many of the Hubs I have created are very specific to smaller niches and also don't have high click through ratios or bid prices.

Most of my top performing Hubs bring me the most money. I am going to attempt to boost my earnings with HubPages and invite you to follow me in this experiment. I will come back and update my earnings occassionally and unfortunately you will have to do the same since I don't know of any other way to notify you. Unless, you follow me on Twitter. The Hub I am going to try this with first and model will be my Pregnancy pillow Hub titled: Pregnancy Body Pillow - What Is The Best Pregnancy Pillow?

Based on how traffic affects HubScore, seeing that my pregnancy pillow Hub has a HubScore of 69, that means a HubScore between 66-70 - is in the 65th percentile. What I am going to do is trying to increase traffic to that Hub and hopefully get it up to a score of about 95 or 96. I currently have other Hubs hovering at a HubScore of 90 and I think I figured out how I did it accidentally. I am going to test my ideas with a lower performing Hub.

How I am going to attempt to do is this is by trying to dominate the search engines for the term 'pregnancy pillow' using the Hub pictures above. Doing this should help you also increase your earnings with your current HubPages if you follow my lead. If you don't have a HubPages, get started now, and follow these fool-proof steps that will serve as a great making money guide and help you to start making money with HubPages.

One of the first steps is you have to make sure the Hubs you are using or are going to create are optimized properly with the correct keywords and tags. Also, you will always want to try to use 100% unique content when publishing on HubPages. If you're a bit shaky on getting started with making money on HubPages, take a breather and just start. They can teach you how to do things I can only hope to learn fast enough! Once you've figured out how to use the proper keywords and you've created unique evergreen content for your HubPage, you are ready for the next step.

A few of the things I've recently learned from Court, Mark and Griz is that there is absolute power and link juice in backlinks. Search engines eat it up - they absolutely love it!! And it's truly a skeleton key that can unlock many doors to how much money you make with your HubPages. Remeber, this Hub is serving as an example, but I have a feeling this experiment is going to go very well.

Interlinking your site, Hubs, posts, etc., is also smiled upon in Google's eyes, from what I understand. If you've at all noticed, I've linked to a lot of HubPages in this Hub. Have you ever noticed or wondered why HubPages only allows you to link out to only 2 of the same external links from any one HubPages, but they don't have a limit to how many links you can have to other Hubs?... They clearly were on to something. I'm going to see if interlinking to a lot of Hubs makes a difference or penalizes this Hub at all.

Another thing I've learned about the power of backlinks and how it can help you make money with HubPages is this: one of the ways you can dominate the search engines for your niche is to get quality backlinks. You need to do this with the proper anchor text and url you want. One way to do this is via the Niche Support page. Another way to do this is with Unique Article Wizard.

Since I started this Hub, I quickly edited a few keywords, added some tags, and inserted some backlinks into my pregnancy pillow Hub. Since then the score has jumped 2 points, making it a HubScore of 71. That means that my site is now in the 78th percentile meaning it should begin averaging about 30 page views a month. That slight increase in HubScore is pure evidence that HubScore is affected by traffic because I visited the Hub a few times and that increased the HubScore. (Not sure if the other changes I also made affected it any)

Remember, I want to try to bump the HubScore of this pregnancy pillow Hub up to a HubScore of 95 or 96 on average. I plan on doing this by gathering massive backlinks with the proper anchor text pointing at the url of my Hub. I know that a HubScore of 95 or 96 is definitely achievable because I used the Google AdWords External Keyword Tool to get an idea of how many searches are done per month on my keyword. The result is 2,900 approximate exact average searches are done each month on Google for my keyword. (When using the tool be sure to select 'Exact' under the Match Type drop down box.) Here are the stats on a 95 or 96 HubScore HubPage:

96-100 - 99.9 percentile (3000 page views a month)

91-95 - 99.3 percentile (2200 page views a month)

Now do you see where I got the idea that I can get a HubScore of about 95 or 96? Because my keyword gets about 2,900 searches a month. I am just shy of a HubScore of 96, which requires 3,000 page views a month. But we all know search results vary so I'm hoping for the best. Not only will my HubScore go up, but more importantly, so will my affiliate earnings and I'll soon be making more money with HubPages. There are only 290,000 competing sites, so this should be pretty easy if I do it right.

I just wanted to say real quick that the Google Keyword tool is really handy and can help you make more money with HubPages by plugging in different keywords and seeing what their average cost per click is. You are usually only going to receive 25% of the click amount they show for your keyword. This can help you decide sometimes whether it's even worth the effort of creating a hub on the topic you were considering. Unless you just Hub for fun and don't want to make money with HubPages.

In case you're wondering how increasing my HubScore will help me to make more money with HubPages, this is how: HubScore only reflects the amount of traffic I am receiving to my Hub. But more/higher traffic volume = more ways to make money with HubPages via affiliate links - whether it's your affiliate links to other products or services, or one of the four make money affiliate programs HubPages uses.

What I am going to do now to make more money with HubPages and my pregnancy pillow Hub is submit articles to various directories using Unique Article Wizard. I use Unique Article Wizard because it submits hundreds of articles to article directories, but using unique content. I will be back later on this afternoon to post my progress. Still trying to decide if I want to just make this one really long Hub or a series. I know it says don't publish unfinished Hubs, but this is one that needs to be updated based on the nature of the topic. Or, like I said, just make it a series. Will see...

OK, it's now a few hours later since I've published this hub. Since then I have gone over and submitted an article to Unique Article Wizard (UAW). I took an article I submitted to ezine articles a long time ago called Pregnancy Pillows, I edited it a bit, and then loaded it into UAW. UAW doesn't submit articles to ezine, and since I had already done the work a while back, I figured why not just edit my existing article and submit it to other directories? The articles will not begin being submitted to different directories until tomorrow (04/18) as they first need to be approved.

The goal of this experiment to make more money with HubPages is to get my pregnancy pillows Hub to be at the #1 spot in 30 days. According to UAW, there are 625 directories that my articles can be submitted to. That's potentially 625 quality backlinks pointing back to my Hub! That should definitely boost it's position in the SERP's. So what I did is schedule 21 articles to be distributed each day. (I got this number by dividing 625 directories/30 days = 21 articles per day) It's possible that the HubPage could get sandboxed, so we'll have to wait and see. But I'm hoping it doesn't because it's been up for a year now and most of the incoming traffic has been from keyword search results from the search engines. How do I know this? ... Google Analytics gives you all this sensitive data, so if you're not using it or familiar with it, I suggest you get familiar as quickly as possible. Analytics can help you greatly when tweaking your earnings and trying to make money with HubPages.

In the meantime I am going to share some stats with you about my pregnancy pillows Hub and more about how I plan to make money with HubPages using it. It currently is no where on the first 5 pages of Google. I'm not sure if it's further, but I didn't bother searching. Take a look at the below screen shot to see images of the top sites found when you currently search 'pregnancy pillows' on Google...

If you take a look at the next image (click thumbnails) you will notice what I mentioned earlier - that the keywords 'pregnancy pillows' currently gets about 2,900 Exact searches per month (I'm assuming on Google). Also take note of the other top keywords. I have also targeted those keywords as long tail phrases throughout my Hub, as well as my articles, to attract more traffic from searchers.

Next, take a look at the average estimated click for 'pregnancy pillows.' It's currently $1.89 If you take 25% of that, 0.475, it's pretty safe to say that my average cost per click on that Hub will be $0.48. That number can vary though. To figure out how that converts into AdSense money to me, we need to take a look at a few things.

1. I have no idea what the click through rate is for this set of keywords. Guess we'll find out... but based on past earnings with Amazon, pregnancy pillows are my top earner, which is why I decided to target that Hub. I want to increase my earnings with Amazon. By driving more traffic to my Hub, not only will I probably increase my Amazon sales, but I'll most likely increase my AdSense income as well. Which brings me back to click through. This is how you can figure out how much money you can make with HubPages. I am just going to assume that 3% of the people who land on my pregnancy pillow Hub are going to click on an ad. And I am going to do these numbers based around the fact that I am targeting the #1 spot and assuming I am going to receive 2,900 visitors per month. So if you multiply 2,900 x 3% (2900 * .03) = 87. So that means about 87 people will probably click on a Google Ad. I am hoping that amount will be much higher, but we'll see. So now you multiply 87 x $0.47 = $40.89 So that means with a click through rate of 3%, that Hub has the potential to earn me $40.89 per month in AsSense revenue.
   
2. But, we almost forgot that HubPages takes 40% of your earnings, so if you do the math on that, that means I should average (based on the numbers I have quoted above) .... $24.50 per month in AdSense earnings from that one Hub. Not a huge number I know, but this is low balling it. Plus it's a very small niche.
   

Most of the money I will make with the pregnancy pillows HubPages will probably be in affiliate sales from sites like Amazon and eBay since they are generally trusted sites that I offer ads from on that Hub. Both ad capsules are offering the product I am promoting in that Hub, which is what a good HubPage does. It provides the information the reader is looking for, which means they are less likely to be distracted by annoying AdSense ads. If you even somewhat good at copywriting, those visitors will turn into buyers, which converts into dollars for you.

So now all that's left to do to see if I make more money with HubPages by doing all this is - wait. Like I said, I've submitted my articles to UAW already so I will check back in about a week to see where they are in the SERPs and if my earnings with Google or HubPages increases at all over the next few days...
