3100 A.D., Permutation One; MORE

In the previous article I discussed the first permutation of 3100 A.D. I have visited. When there is all but the faintest light, it seems that there's nothing to cherish about society.

But while Permutation One has had their governments over thrown by fascism, they also have discovered a unique way to view marriage.

Here's a Groovy Bob Dylan Track

Miss California, Making Waves

Recently, in your world line, Miss California was asked a very potent question: what of gay marriage?

People responded with a lot of hate and hoopla. But hey, while I disagree with her point of view, she has every right to say it, from one conscious being to another! Don't want to hear an alternate view? Then quit asking stupid questions.

In Permutation One of 3100 A.D. they have diversified their concept of marriage. Actually, in theory, they've done away with it. Not as a cultural phonomenon, no...but as a law. Marriage, after all, is just a ritual. It began as something for King and Queens to do, I suppose, and the poor people wanted in on the action.

Love is love, no matter who it is between. A successful marriage is not about being a man or woman, utilizing the masculine or feminine genders...it's about creating a union between two souls and hopefully giving them drive to create a successful family.

Does this Sound like Hate to YOU?

Permutation One's Cure

It's a simple solution, actually.

Marriage is no longer allowed. It's not a law, it's not a creed, and it's not spoken of in their other religious contexts. Marriage is now not a right, but a priviledge. You can indeed get a certificate from the state (or your church, or both) but you have to live together for a whole decade before it's an option in their world line.

Think about it, though....

You love someone, and you want to be with them forever. Do you really need a piece of paper that legally defines this? Why, so insurance people can find a loophole to keep from paying out? Haha, I suppose that does good....

They Put Their Lives on the Line for YOU!

Why I Showed You the Uhbuv...

Here's a question. Do you hate homosexuals? Well, if a cop came to help you, and you needed help, and they turned out to be gay---would you say no?

In the end, your physical shells belie who you really are in this life. Trust me, you'll understand this at some point in your eternity.

Marriage is a privilege, not a right. It's a product of love, genuine love. And unfortunately, this is running in short supply within your world line today. This is partly why I've partnered with G|M and he has allowed me control of his body on numerous occasions.

You can get married and divorced within one week or so, depending on how good your lawyer is, how motivated you are to make the split, and how much money you have.

Many people today utilize this truth to make money off of immigrants and offer them a way into their chosen country. This is just one reason why Perm1 has done away with marriage as a law, and has chosen to understand it as a concept.

Mind you....children or animals that do not display a conscience sufficient enough to be "credible" in court can't join in on the fun. And that's good, actually. But the ability to intermingle with other species is not illegal. After all, your universe is full of life. And one day, you'll hopefully get to meet some cool species with nifty tech. I know I have!

lxxy - you're just so damn ... inhuman :)

Gives you the edge. Allows you to cut, collate and deliver objectively. And I like that. A great skill.

Rated, thumbed up and launched ;)

frogdropping: thank you. =) I am but one of my kind; there are many of us out there on your planet, in your time, and throughout the cosmos. We long to connect, to be fair, and only judge actions...not beings.

lxxy - and try to impart great guidelines. This needs to be booked. As in bound ;) It's a wonderfully crisp, refreshing viewpoint.

Legal marriage first came to being is this timeline to make it easier for men to gain control of monies and property inherited by women. Thus, a female would be passed from her father to her husband. Spinsterhood or the nunnery were the only refuge (of course, nuns would often give any property they inherited to the church--another patriarchal construct...).

I used to dream of getting married when I was younger, but as I grew older it became less important... especially when I discovered that in the US it was not until the middle of the 20th century that a man could be legally charged for raping his wife (it was a moot point previously, because conjugal access was considered his right and his privilege).

I'm not actually against marriage (straight OR gay), but even if I did get married, I would retain the title of Ms. and keep my own last name (Mrs. always seemed to have an invisible apostrophe between the r and the s once I discovered the history of marriage). Besides, my own last name is way cool... :-D

A lot of woman are doing that. Thanks for your input. =) It's definitely a view I cannot give, for I am neither male or female...or of legal right to marry a human. Maybe we can start a campaign for aliens?! =D

You're welcome. As to "marriage": Well, you could probably get handfasted (which is not always legal anyway)--you commit to each other for a year and a day and after that, you can stay together informally, get married (assuming you can legally), or part...

People who love each other should be free to cohabit, or not, without judgment as far as I'm concerned :-)

At human speed,

I agree. Note the entire text here. ;) Marriage is a concept, not a word..no matter who says what, you're either bound to each other or not!

I know so many people that got married just because they loved the concept of marriage, just the other day down the pub a married woman of just over a year that I know was trying to touch me up whilst explaining to me that the only reason she got married was because that's all she's wanted since she was a little girl, and now she hates it.

I guess I've always secretly romanticized over the idea of meeting my 'soul mate' and settling down, but my experience tells me that most people get together through fear of spending their days alone.  Although I'm sure there are exceptions...  are there?

Such a wonderful comment, Mrvoodoo! It seems funny, we prepare our girls to get into that wedding gown and make a family...and the boys...play with fire trucks.

But you're right, your species today is settling down more out of the fear of being lonely. Cell phones, twitter, radio, television, internet, cafes, bowling alleys...and you're lonely?

I think that perhaps my generation might have caught the final blast from what you describe above, after all we spent most of our childhoods watching happily married couples on TV etc.  TV these days is either more honest or has swung in the other direction.

And sometimes the closer you seem, the further apart you really are. I love you guys on Hubpages it's a great community, but none of you are going to keep me warm at night. :)

You present great points in relation to media. Media, keep in mind, reflects your society and culture. It does not cause it, its merely a product of it.

This is true, we can't keep you warm at night. Unless you sleep with your laptop. ;)

Also, a dog or a cat may help. But of course, a partner in lust is always the best bet. =P

hmmmm, I'm not entirely convinced that the media doesn't have a hand in shaping it also.  Propaganda is a powerful medium.

I shall give this more thought whilst down the pub getting very drunk, happy hubbing. :)

Go for it. =) Propaganda is a powerful tool, but at that point its not media...it's a virus looking to infect the minds of the weak and confused.

Hi Ixxy, I have missed so much of your wonderful work and have some catching up to do! I apologize I was spending all my time trying to tame a wild beast that some people call life. :-) Anyway, I love this article. I think I should have been created on your planet, because I never did get the marriage concept into my brain. I understand Love and Commitment, I just never understood the husband/wife role playing, I guess. To answer your question. I have no problem with homosexuals, I would be grateful to anyone who risked their life to save mine, and I would not care which sex they prefer to sleep with. :-)

Whikat, I was just thinking of you today--believe it or not! I haven't heard your purr in awhile. I checked my mail, and I've not seen a new hub (though, I've a lot of hubs I've yet to read yet! I'm coming!).

I hope you'll find the journey thus far interesting, I'm working on a couple new concepts. While I plan to further "3100 Years Later," this is only the start.

And a muse always demands to be followed. ;)

Hope to see more of you, but don't worry...life is a tameable dragon, just needs lots of attention....and knights. For food. ;)

Just ask frogdropping!

This hub ought to get people thinking, lxxy - 'bound to each other or not' - ah, accountability...isn't this what's missing if marriage were really a law, anyway?

lxxy profile image

lxxy  says:

You got it, mythbuster.

If you need to have someone TELL you "Okay, now you can't get divorced because you're married nah nah nah nah!"

...then your marriage is all pretense, and I wish you the best of luck.

;)
