Our economy is extremely shaky, and the dollar is going through a crises. Do we hear the two major candidates addressing this? All we hear are attacks from both sides but, hey what’s a campaign without the smearing? The latest smear for Obama from the “McCamp” is that Obama is a “celebrity”—like it was a bad thing. McCain has been on Letterman and Saturday Night Live, but that does not make him a celebrity?—Please.
Have you paid close attention as to what the candidates proposed to do about the economy? All they offer are “band aids” to try and fix the economy. They may have good intentions, but the problem is a philosophical one. Let us start with this quote from the U.S. Constitution: “The Congress shall have power to coin money, regulate the value thereof…” Today, the Federal Reserve has this power and it is not even a government agency—it is a privately owned “bank.” They are not subject to audits and do not have to give an account to “we the people.” They are more secretive than the CIA.
Ron Paul for 35 plus years has been trying to warn us of this looming crises and what needs to be done to stop the pending disaster. In a speech that he made to the House on July 9, 2008 entitled, “Something Big is Happening”, he makes this interesting statement about our fiat currency and the “dollar bubble:”
"There are various reasons that the world economy has been globalized and the problems we face are worldwide. We cannot understand what we're facing without understanding fiat money and the long-developing dollar bubble.
There were several stages. From the inception of the Federal Reserve System in 1913 to 1933, the Central Bank established itself as the official dollar manager. By 1933, Americans could no longer own gold, thus removing restraint on the Federal Reserve to inflate for war and welfare…Ironically in these past 35 years, we have benefited from this very flawed system. Because the world accepted dollars as if they were gold, we only had to counterfeit more dollars, spend them overseas (indirectly encouraging our jobs to go overseas as well) and enjoy unearned prosperity. Those who took our dollars and gave us goods and services were only too anxious to loan those dollars back to us. This allowed us to export our inflation and delay the consequences we now are starting to see.
But it was never destined to last, and now we have to pay the piper. Our huge foreign debt must be paid or liquidated. Our entitlements are coming due just as the world has become more reluctant to hold dollars. The consequence of that decision is price inflation in this country--and that's what we are witnessing today… The more the government is allowed to do in taking over and running the economy, the deeper the depression gets and the longer it lasts. That was the story of the 30s and the early 40s, and the same mistakes are likely to be made again if we do not wake up."
Are McCain and Obama trying to warn us or maybe distract us?

Great hub Momma =) The federal reserve is all milfed up, for sure. It's basically an illegal, private corporation loaning our economy the right to exist, at interest! It's a no-win situation for poor america, and most other "civilized" countries the world over. International bankers, unfortunately, own much of the world.
Hey did you see that Zeitgeist movie? www.zeitgeistmovie.com
Oh and I posted this crazy conspiracy hub here. Still sarching for some fact checks on this.

On the subject of Obama and McCain's economy strategies: I think Obama is holding out on his, but I'm not sure why for some reason. I think because it involves work and sacrifice (read: CHANGE) on the part of the American people, which many folks are not likely to impose upon themselves by voting for him. In my perfect world, he holds out until the end, gets elected, then Surprise! We can't use as much energy as we've been using, no SERIOUSLY *insert energy caps, carbon tax, etc here* and a plan for green/sustainable energy, oil independence, and eventual lifts of all these caps/taxes etc because we won't need them anymore (future perspective insight: why would you ever use OIL for ENERGY?! It comes for free all day long from the sun, duhhh =/ )
Thanks Junno and Constant Walker for your comments--I really appreciate it. Yes, I have watched Zeitgeist and a bunch of other documentaries. I needed a break from all that information, though, so I haven't watched much vidoes lately--it was starting to get to me. I do what I can in my writing to warn and inform others.
Hey Jonno, I'm still working on the videos (the page is bookmarked) - they're so intense and full of wow-type info that I take a break between viewings.
I agree with your theory. Obama knows it's going to take work and sacrifice to fix this colossal mess, and he knows us lazy-asses won't knowingly vote for anyone who's going to force us to put ourselves through the slighest bit of inconvenience. We need someone like him. If McCain wins I'm defecting to Canada... If Bush forces himself into another, indefinite term, I'm leading a civil war!

It sickens me how the media blacked out Ron Paul. None of these other talking heads seems to understand what is really going on here. Worse yet, they probably do understand it and they're agenda is to just make it worse.
ha, it's almost civil war trying to explain to my family down south about basic concepts such as the Federal Reserve, so no thanks. If I have to fight more than that for what I believe is right, I'm gonna high-tail it out of here. South America is lookin pretty nice. I'd much rather see a great president like Obama take charge and turn this country in the right direction, but I'm skeptical as to his ability to do so. Not because of any personal lacking on his part, but because he's up against a system that is much bigger than one man can tackle. See JFK for reference.
Agreed. South America, ay? Exotic, warm beaches, rum drinks... sounds awesome. Much warmer -and nakeder!- than Canada.
Dlarson. It IS sickening. Dennis Kucinich was another one who knew exactly what was going on and said so. It was inspiring to listen to him talk. But, the "world powers" are not about to let someone like that, or Ron Paul, or anyone else, dismantle the system they've spent hundreds of years carefully putting into place. The media report what they're told to report. Apparently Obama fits into the agenda, which is disheartening, but he seems to be the only hope we have. Maybe... he's got an agenda of his own! Let's hope so.

Hi Momma. Good hub. One of the very first things I that won me over to Obama was that he DID have solutions. He pulled no punches or sugar-coated nothing. Some solutions, he said, would be painful, but this was the price for the mess we'd gotten ourselves into. I respect that.
