Geeks Making Gadgets For Medical Use

Technology is always growing by leaps and bounds. Usually you hear about the gadgets, gizmos and inventions that make your computer faster, cure baldness, make you thin, or help you play games better. The gadgets and inventions that help the medical field often go over looked. Today I’m pleased to highlight a few of the recent technologies helping the medical field.

Color X-Ray Technology

How about a new X-Ray technique that delivers color X-Rays using less radiation? This would be a huge boon to the medical field. The current black and white X-Rays leave a lot to the imagination with a lack of detail. The new color technology would help doctors make more accurate diagnoses and provide better treatment. In addition, they use less radiation – you can’t beat that!

Hearing aid And Cell Phone

Hearing Meets Phone

This one seems obvious, doesn’t it? You’d think someone would have merged the hearing aid and phone technology long before now, but apparently not. I think it is actually a good idea – more functionality with more convenience. How can you go wrong?

The new hearing aid and phone combo is being made by a company in Germany. The page detailing the device is, unfortunately, all in German. This means we may have to wait for an English journal or magazine to pick it up before we get release details. Regardless, this a great device, making life more convenient for the hearing impaired.

Virtual Hallucination Machine

I wrote about the Virtual Hallucination Machine here. This is a machine that helps mental health professionals and law enforcement have empathy for the plight of the mentally ill by helping them experience life as they do.

Digital Pill Box Keeps Track

Digital Pill Box

Last, but not least, is the Digital Pill Box. Have you been worried that you or someone you love might overdose from taking too many medications? Maybe grandma or grandpa has Alzheimer’s or other mental health problems that might cause them to forget a dose. Maybe you have a disease like HIV that can require more than 20 different pills and your worried you might forget a dose yourself.

Never fear, the Digital Pill Box is here. This handy new gadget can help you keep track of all of your medication. It keeps your pills in individual compartments, making sure you’re only taking what you need for that day. It alerts you with sound and lights when it is time to take a dose. It then records that you have taken it and locks down, preventing you from taking a second dose before it is time.

This handy gadget is not expensive, and the investment could save your life or the life of grandma and grandpa. How can it do that? It is permanently connected to your power outlet and your telephone to keep sending the latest medication updates to your doctor. For under $200, this is well worth a buy.

Has anyone seen a gadget that alerts the person with hearing loss, that they have their TV/radio unacceptably loud? My Dad is in danger of going from sheltered housing to residential care just because his radio is too loud and he is therefore being seen as anti-social.

You've inspired me. I use wireless headphones to solve this problem, so I will write a hub on them, just for you, instead of answering your comment here. Look for it this week. If your father resists the idea, let him know I'm in my 30s and I love them, maybe that will help. Once the article is written I'll update this one with a link to it for you to make it easy.
