Causes of Excessive Sweating

According to medical experts, there are several possible causes of excessive sweating. While most evidences show that excessive sweating may be a heredity (genetic) condition, caused by an overactivity of the sympathetic nerves; there are also many doctors who believe that there are other medical related and non-medical factors that can aggravate the condition.

The following is a list of possible medical causes that seem to trigger excessive sweating at any point in life.

  • Certain medications, including antidepressants, morphine, drugs to reduce fevers, and medicines to treat high blood pressure or AIDS can cause excessive sweating in some people.
  • Medical conditions that can also cause excessive sweating are overactive thyroid gland, gout, cardiac issues, cancerous growths, abnormal glucose levels, tuberculosis, stroke, lung diseases, spinal cord injuries, encephalitis and Parkinson's disease.
  • Certain types of infections, skin conditions, menopause, pregnancy, anxiety and anomalies of the nervous or endocrine system may also cause excessive perspiration.

To know if you are suffering from excessive sweating, look for the following physical symptoms:

1. Excessive sweating on the face, soles, armpits, palms, breasts or groin.

2. Presence of macerated skin

3. Skin cracking or scaling

4. Body or foot odor

5. Reddness of the sweating area
