Pillow That Avoids Stiff Neck

Normally I sleep on my side that is why I used a contour type pillow to keep my neck properly aligned.  However, unconsciously, I turn around and sleep at my back.  The problem with this is, when I wake up, I have a stiff neck.  That is why I am looking for a kind of pillow that works both when I sleep at my back and on my side.  With this, I do some research about different kinds of pillows.

What Is a Pillow?

According to Wikipedia, a pillow is a large cushion support for the head, usually used while sleeping in a bed, or for the body as used on a couch or chair.  There are also throw pillows (also called toss pillows), which are pillows that are purely decorative and not designed for support or comfort.  Outside the USA, these are generally considered a type of cushion, with the term pillow reserved for the pillows on a bed.

What are Pillows Made Of



Before, straw is used as filler to a pillow, but this is uncomfortable and seldom used today. Now days a pillow comprises filler made from synthetic fills or down. This kind of pillow is what they called thin pillow. Down offers the advantage of softness and their ability to conform to shapes desired by the user. There is also a memory foam or latex and this is a supportive pillow. Memory foam will react to the weight of a persons head and slowly conform around the head and neck to provide great support. Latex pillows are more bouncy than memory foam. That means that it will bounce back to its original shape immediately and works well for someone that moves around a lot.


The fill is enclosed with a cover known as the pillowcase made of cloth or silk. It is recommended that all types of pillow covers be washed periodically since this is the part that is in contact with our body. However, even with regular washing, pillows tend to accumulate large amounts of dust and huge numbers of microbes among the fill that is why it is advisable that they be replaced every few years.


The Pillow That is Best For Me

Based on what I have research, now I can say that the best pillow for me is the Latex kind pillow especially that I move around a lot in my sleep. This will help me avoid a stiff neck when I wake up.
