Maca Herbs

Maca, also called "Peruvian Ginseng" is cultivated in the Andes mountains and has been used for at least two thousand years by the Peruvians who used it as a food source for endurance and energy. Much to their surprise, the Maca root also gave them sexual virility and fertility as well.

One of the exciting benefits of Maca is that it is an adaptogen. In order for something to be considered an adaptogen, it must only benefit the body and do no harm. Very much unlike drugs, you get only the positive effects from Maca and no harmful side effects.

Maca also contains most everything a body needs to supplement a healthy diet. It's abundant in amino acids, vitamins, minerals, Calcium, and magnesium. Basically Maca helps us correct nutritional deficiencies as it balances both male and female hormones. All this without having to change the way we eat... although some of us really should :)

Maca and Menopause

Maca helps the body produce the hormones it lacks. How wonderful is this? Instead of a product trying to replace hormones by an outside source (medication or HRT) Maca tells our body to produce more of its own hormones. Novel idea.

Maca has been said to help with several symptoms of menopause such as night sweats, vaginal dryness, hot flashes, and brain fog. Will everyone see these benefits? Probably not as everyone is different, eats differently, is in different activity stages of their lives and so on. But in many, many cases, Maca is a charm and is superior to most natural hormone treatments on the market.

Herbal Menopause Treatment

There are some herbs like Black cohosh and Evening Primrose oil that are used for Menopause. Much better for you than HRT however these are just hormone substitutes, they don't prevent the symptoms of menopause. Remember, Maca's role in menopause is to help your body produce the hormones it lacks. These herbs (Black cohish, Evening Primrose, etc) work for a while but eventurally the symptoms of menopause return because, much like pharmaceuticals, they are not getting to the heart of the problem... only taking care of the symptoms temporarily.

Increasing estrogen is not always the solution for hormone related problems. Although it's usually the solution most often thought of. You, in fact, can be estrogen dominant and not deficient. This is the very reason that Maca becomes more beneficial to other natural treatments (and certainly synthetic treatments) as it works in your body to natuarally balance your hormone levels.

Men with cancers that are hormonal such as prostate cancer shouldn't use Maca.
