Natural ways to increase sperm health.

Male infertility and low sperm count are problems which are more common than is generally thought. In cases where conception is difficult due to infertility, there is an equal chance that it is the infertility of the male partner at fault as it is the female partner.

Protect Your Fertility and Sperm Health

There are many possible causes for male infertility, but some are within our control and can thus be influenced by our own actions. The following list contains the most common factors which can cause low sperm count an infertility n men:

EMF's - EMFs, or ElectroMagnetic Frequencies can heat the testicles, resulting in lower sperm count.

Cigarette smoking - Smoking lowers fertility by damaging your sperm, simple as that. This damage can be reversed by giving up smoking.

Pesticides and hormones in foods - Hormones added to dairy and meat and pesticides in commercial produce have a very large impact on the hormonal balance and thus the fertility of men. Pesticides in the body act like estrogens, while the hormones in meat and dairy products ARE estrogen and other hormones - these are bad for fertility.

Soy foods - Soy foods also act like estrogens in the body.

Alcohol- Studies have shown that men who consume too much alcohol have a lowered sperm count.

Plastics - The heating of plastics releases xenohormones, also behaving like estrogen in the body.

Briefs/ boxers - Snug underwear, such as briefs keeps the testicles too close to the body, meaning that sperm are kept at too high of a temperature, reducing sperm count.

Hot tubs/ bike riding - Again, both of these keep sperm from being kept at the proper temperature, which is bad for sperm count.

Stress - Stress has a large effect on hormonal balance.

Get Tested

If you and your partner have been trying unsuccessfully to get pregnant for over a year, you should both be tested for infertility. You can use over the counter sperm tests, but these are difficult to interpret the results of. Instead, go to your physician.

A desirable test result is a sperm count of at least 20 million.

A count of less than this is not so good - however, following the tips in this guide can help with sperm count, morphology and motility.

You Are What You Eat

Diet, of course is a big factor in the health of your sperm. What you eat today affects your sperm 3 months from now.

The average time between sperm production and ejaculation is 42 to 76 days.

This means that what you do today makes a big difference to the quality of the sperm you'll use in two to three months time. This is the amount of time that it takes for herbs and supplements to have optimal effect. Balance Your Hormones

Hormone imbalance is not a problem only affecting women; men can have imbalanced hormones as well.

Hormones are very important in male fertility and semen production. The most important of these hormones is testosterone.

Hormone imbalance can be caused by a variety of factors, including those mentioned above.

Many pollutants imitate the effects of estrogn in the body (these are known as xenohormones). More estrogen means less testosterone; this results in erectile dysfunction, lower libido and sperm count and less seminal fluid.

Men's Fertility Cleanse

You can clear some of these toxins and hormones from your body by cleansing.

These xenohormones may be present in:

-soy foods

-pesticides on food

-hormones added to dairy and meat

-plastics

Here are 5 easy steps to achieving hormonal balance:

1. Reduce your exposure to xenohormones

2. Eat only organic meats and dairy which are free of hormones.

3. Avoid soy foods.

4. Cleanse your body of these xenohormones and toxins with a Men's Fertility Cleanse.

5. Eat lots of fiber and cruciferous vegetables. These vegetables contain compounds that help the body to eliminate excess estrogen. The supplement DIM can also have this effect.

Take Supporting Herbs

These herbals have been used for centuries to assist men have higher fertility and increase their sperm count.

Most of these herbs contain adaptogens which nourish the endocrine system to help your hormones work properly.

Maca - Maca has been shown to have a positive impact on the libido and the production of healthy sperm.

Tribulus - Tribulus stimulates the testes to produce more testosterone by increasing the quantity of luteinizing hormone (LH) produced by the body.

Panax Ginseng - Studies have shown ginseng to be helpful in increasing sperm count, motility and the quality of sperm.

Nutrients Necessary for Healthy Sperm

To effectively increase male fertility, it is important to get the nutrients which your sperm need as well as the nutrients which lead to hormonal balance.

Multivitamin for men

A 100% whole food Men's Multivitamin from MegaFood can give you all of the necessary nutrients for sperm health and high fertility.

The following are the nutrients specifically needed for male fertility:

Zinc- A deficiency of zinc reduces your levels of testosterone - and in en who have low testosterone, zinc increases testosterone levels and boosts fertility.

Folic acid - Folic acid has been suggested in many studies to improve sperm health. Men with low levels of this nutrient have higher levels of sperm which has abnormalities. An egg fertilized by one of these sperm can result in a baby with birth defects, as well as carrying a higher risk of miscarriage.

B12- Has been proven to increase sperm count.

Vitamin C - Vitamin C is an antioxidant, protecting sperm from this kind of damage. It increases the sperm quality in those who smoke and reduces sperm agglutination (clumping).

l-carnitine - A necessary nutrient for sperm health, L-carnitine has been shown in studies to help improve sperm motility in men who have low sperm quality.

CoQ10 - Is an antioxidant which protects sperm cells from damage. Studies have proven a connection between coQ 10 levels and sperm health. COQ10 has also been shown to increase sperm motility.
