Mesothelioma Basics

Mesothelioma is a cancer. Specifically it is a cancer that is unique to a certain area of the body.

It is specific to body cavity linings. Two primary kids of mesothelioma are pleural mesothelioma and peritoneal mesothelioma.

  • Pleural mesothelioma is a cancer that attacks the lining around the lungs that area is called the pleural space.
  • Peritoneal mesothelioma is a cancer that attacks the space around the abdomen.

Who is at risk?

The majority of people are at risk of mesothelioma are people who worked in close contact with asbestos.

Why is that?

Mesothelioma is a disease that is ONLY caused by asbestos. That makes this disease very unique. Some of the common professions where there is a high level of exposure are:

  • Shipbuilders
  • Railroad Workers
  • Insulation Installers
  • Asbestos product manufacturing
  • Construction Workers
  • Spouse and Children of people who worked with Asbestos

Why are there so many lawsuits connected with Asbestos and Mesothelioma?

Because Mesothelioma is only caused by Asbestos AND because the dangers of asbestos were known for a very long time.

When you have a disease like this which has only one cause it creates a situation where the biggest hurdle you have in a lawsuit is proving when you were exposed and to what

Was it during a home remodeling?

Through work as a pipe fitter?

These are the kinds of questions that people spend a lot of time on in these lawsuits. If you can answer them and prove them then the chances are high that you can prove a case.
