Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer, in which the cancer cells are found in the mesothelium (sac which covers most of the body's internal organs). There are two major types of Mesothelioma. They are pleural mesothelioma and peritoneal mesothelioma. The pleural mesothelioma is which concerns mesothelium membrane that surrounds the lungs and peritoneal mesothelioma which concerns mesothelium layer that covers the organs in the abdominal cavity.

Treatments

The treatments for Mesothelioma prognosis are traditional and alternative as follows

The traditional treatments are Surgery, Radiation, Chemotherapy,Palliative treatments.

The alternative treatments are Immunotherapy, Photodynamic therapy, Intensity Modulated Radiation therapy, Gene therapy, New chemotherapy agents and therapies like acupuncture, homeopathy, herbs, massage, etc.

Symptoms

The syntomps of Mesothelioma are

  1. Shortness of breath
  2. Difficulty swallowing

  5. Fever
  6. Weight loss

  8. Swelling in the face and arms
  9. Lower back pain

  18. Blood clotting abnormalities
  19. Heart palpitations

Diagnosis

Diagnosing is often difficult, because the symptoms are similar to those of a number of other conditions.

The diagnosis will start with x-rays of the chest or abdomen and lung function testsand CT scan will be very useful. Some of the diagnosis are as follows Thoracoscopy, Peritoneoscopy, Biopsy.
