If you do a quick online search for methods help youquit smoking, you will find a huge number of techniques. These could be old-fashioned or really modern. Many are free DIY tips and some are kits that would cost you some money. There are some methods that could work and others that are outrageous. What works for people with a certain smoking pattern may not work for another group. You must research and carefully analyze each method. Are you looking for something that would provide immediate results or something more extensive? What kind of preparation do you have to make to quit smoking, as part of the de-addiction program? These are some of the questions you must answer before you decide on a method of help you quit smoking.

Acupuncture and acupressure are ancient treatments that are gaining acceptance in the Western world these days. Even though skepticism remains about their effectiveness to help quit smoking, you could try it out as an alternative option. If you have a skin ailment or other health condition, it’s advisable to seek your doctor’s guidance before you give these methods a shot.

Alternative approaches include claims made by some pharmaceutical companies that certain herbs and medicinal plants are effective in dealing with the withdrawal symptoms or even cravings. You must do a lot of research on such herbs before you consume them. They could affect how your regular medication would work.

Nicotine replacements such as gum, inhalers and patches are known to help reduce your dependence on.  Gradually the withdrawal symptoms become less pronounced and the smoker can actually walk away from a cigarette without feeling the urge to light it.

Hypnosis has received extreme reactions from people—some smokers feel no different even after a few sessions while some claim hypnosis to be the very reason why they quit smoking. Mass hypnosis is less likely to have enduring effects.

Replacement techniques as the name suggests, recommend doing something completely different in lieu of smoking. Something as mundane as drinking water is one of the suggested replacement activities. The health benefits of water are well known to all of us, but as a tool in your fight against smoking, it may not be very effective.

Some of the methods suggested online are not just a drain on your pocket but also harmful. You must especially watch out for:

‘The too good to be true’ syndrome; if something sounds unrealistic, then it may not even be worth a try.

Familiar brands are played around with to fool people. A recognized brand name could be slightly manipulated to give you the feeling that the ‘scam’ product is from the original company.

Doctors generally do not endorse products. So look out for those that have a special seal of approval from doctors or the medical industry. Some products even claim support from medical associations.

When you decide to get a product or try out a different approach, you must be convinced that it has a fair chance of succeeding. Do not buy products that seem spurious even if they do not cost you very much. Your health is as important as the success of your de-addiction program.
