What is Mil Sim Paintball?

There are many different styles of paintball. Among the most engaging is that of mil sim paintball. Standing for military simulation, mil-sim paintball is slightly different from a standard paintball match because it involves a much more engaged, organized approach to the sport. Besides paintball, milsim paintball games are often played with airsoft guns as well, and the name may be equally applied to both styles of play. While the rules are generally the same, some of the details are different.

MilSim Paintball Style Play

Military simulation paintball often involves reenacting actual battles from throughout history. The battle that is chosen will often depend on where the Mil Sim paintball game takes place and who is involved. Past scenario paintball simulations have included everything from small skirmishes to World War II battles. Different Mil Sim paintball guns are available as well as MilSim paintball gear that matches different eras of military history to capture as much of the realism from those times as possible.

The degree of realism involved in a Mil-Sim paint ball is largely dependent on the nature of the event. These events can last anywhere between a few hours and a few days and can involve any number of different people as well. While shorter games can be spontaneous and take place in just about any location, a longer game will need a designated play field in which to take place and specific instructions and organization to keep it under control. In addition, most recreational paintball games that are played in the woods, also known as woodsball, are a form of milsim paintball.

Mil-Sim Paintball Guns

Because of the popularity of remaining as accurate as possible in a Mil-Sim paintball game there are a number of different kinds of paintball guns available. Players can purchase a paintball sniper rifle or a Mil Sim gun mod to make their experience as realistic as possible. Very commonly, well known paintball gun models are made into replica military paintball guns to make the experience as true as possible. You can find these gun types on a variety of specialty websites designed for MilSim paintball enthusiasts. Some of the most popular milsim paintball guns are Tippmann, BT, Smart Parts, Spyder, Ariakon, and Tiberious Arms. Tippmann makes the popular beginner paintball marker 98 Custom, the very popular A-5, and the brand new X-7 that features numerous mil sim modifications. BT makes paintball guns similar to Tippman but with a few special additions that make them a serious tactical paintball gun. BT also makes paintball guns that already have all the tactical upgrades so they can look just like an AK-47, a M-16, or a MP-5. Smart Parts SP-1 and SP-8 feature all of the technology of the high speed professional paintball markers in a package that is fitting for scenario paintball games. Spyder has recently announced their MR line with three models that provide advanced paint ball marker technology in a mil-sim package. If you’re looking for paintball pistol then you’ll want to check out the Ariakon and Tiberious Arms tactical paintball pistols.

Mil-Sim Paintball Gear

In addition to sniper paintball rifles, Mil Sim paintball enthusiasts can purchase from a wide array of different styles of clothing designed to match the era from which they are simulating. Some MilSim paintball games do not simulate a specific battle or era but merely use military tactics and style of play from modern warfare to engage. These players can choose from a wide selection of Mil-Sim tactical paintball gear that simulates the style of gear worn by today's military. The array of options available for MilSim paintball enthusiasts makes it possible to engage in nearly any style of paintball play desired. There are many manufacturers that now specialize in tactical paintball vests, paintball grenades, paintball mines, camo clothes, and more.

Conclusion

MilSim is a great way to enjoy paintball with a new twist. By throwing in a more advanced style of play that utilizes active tactical decisions and even classic battle plans, Mil Sim paintball players can go above and beyond the standard paintball match. The first step is to learn more about the paintball gear and paintball guns available for the Mil-Sim paintball enthusiast and then to find the right array of players to join you.

Great Read! With all the Airsoft hype, I think people forget that paintball is still alive and well. Some of the newer "Milsim" guns are awesome, and look just like the real steal.

I played PB for 18 years. During that time, I watched the sport go from woods ball to Speedball. I served as a player, field staff, ref, and retailer and saw how it became more about spray and pray and proffessional cheating, than about tactics. Which is why I gave it up and took up airsoft.

I am glad to see that woods and MilSim PB is making a come back and I hope that it does well. Who knows, I might even get back in the game if things keep looking good.
