As time passes and we grow older, our minds tend to get unfocussed or distracted. It seems that the answer to a problem or remembering something is getting harder or takes more time than before. It actually is, as we grow older - and I don't mean having grey hair - our mind and body get older too and we need to take care of both of them the proper way to ensure we have a good long happy life.

We have many options on how to take care of our bodies: going to the gym, doing some sports, manage stress levels, eating properly, etc. The last few years, there have been a lot of campaigns that promote a healthy image by taking care of your body. But what happened to taking care of your mind as well??

Our minds, as our bodies, need to exercise to be in shape and stay sharp. The good thing is that to train your mind you don't need to spend a dime, maybe that's why all campaigns focus on your body, because you have to spend money buying a gym subscription or buying "better" or "healthier" food.

Do you want to test how your mind is working?? I found a couple of easy tests you can try and see how sharp is you mind.

  1. Memory - for this you will need the help of another person. Tell this person to lay on a table 10 different objects, you are not allowed to see these objects until they are properly placed on the table. You have to look at them for 10 seconds and then close your eyes. The challenge is that you have to recall as many objects as you can remember. The more you can remember, the better your memory and your brain are. More than 6 is very good.
  2. Counting - you have to count backwards from 100 to 0. But that's not all, you'll have to count in groups of, for example, seven. You have to choose a number that is hard a not regularly used number like two, five or ten. Challenge your mind! Getting below 50 is a good score. It might be hard at first but it will get easier on time and your mind will get back in shape.

These are only two of many brain tests you can try. There are lots of websites, books and videos that help you with this. I did some research, and enclose a video that plays with your eyes and mind, and some related links too.
