does minoxidil works for hairline ?
A general doubt when someone is thinking about using Rogaine ( minoxidil ) is if it will works for his hairline or only for the vertex .
This myths that it only works for vertex have been around for decades , as many decades minoxidil have . But this year , during the The 17th Annual Scientific Meeting of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery and hair loss one of the speakers , Ken Washenik, MD, PhD , coment the result of a new study that compare the effectiveness of Minoxidil applying in the vertex vs the hairline .
The test results given for a 5% minoxidil solution were a success rate of 54% at the vertex and 51% at the hairline/temple. The common mith that topical minoxidil doesn’t treat hairline hair loss was because the wording of the bottle for Rogaine, which says topical minoxidil is for ‘growing hair at the top only’. Understandably, Upjohn did not include statistics for hair line growth to the FDA, when it applied for an approval. So, the FDA required Upjohn to state that Rogaine is to be used to grow hair in the vertex .
the exactly mechanisms of why minoxidil stimulate hair growth is still not well understood, Dr. Washenik gave evidence that minoxidil works like a vascular endothelial growth factor and in this way stimulates prostaglandins, which it will change the inflammatory response.
