Mistakes to avoid on your job application
62Unemployment and job losses are big news nowadays so it is important for you to make sure there are NO mistakes when you apply for a job. Even if you are perfect for the job, with all the right qualifications and skills just some minor mistakes on your job application could cost you the job. Here are just a few mistakes to avoid when you are completing your job application.
-
Read the application form correctly, don’t skim or scan through the form. Look carefully at any instructions or information provided. These could come in handy as you fill in the form.
-
When requesting for an application form it might be a good idea to ask for two forms. So if you make a mistake you could correct it on the other one. If not use another paper to write down answers and then neatly copy it onto your form.
-
Complete all the questions and provide all information asked for. If you leave a blank space think of the message you are sending to your potential employer. If you feel a particular question does not apply to you then write N/A (not applicable) as it looks a lot better.
-
Spelling mistakes are silly but still common. Check your spelling and grammar.
-
Your writing should be neat and easy to read.
-
If you are asked to provide references then do so, but before you do ask the person whose details you put down.
-
Provide relevant information. If you are asked about hobbies don’t give a list of random hobbies and pastimes, link them to your job. If you enjoy sport that involves team work then link some of the skills to the job you are applying for.
-
Get a family member of friend to check your application form just in case you missed some.
-
Remember the deadline date. Return the application at least a day beforehand to avoid any delays.
Good luck with your application and hopefully you get the good news you are hoping for!
