Electric vs Gas - 3 vs 4 Wheels

There are many different types of mobility scooters, with their own unique advantages. The primary differences, however, are based on Three vs Four wheels and Gas vs Electric powered.

Three wheel mobility scooters are much more manuverable in tight hallways and corridors whereas their four wheel counterparts have an advantage of being more stable and carrying larger weight loads. The three wheeled versions are better suited for indoor use and many of the outdoor oriented mobiltiy scooters have four wheels. It's a lifestyle choice as to whether you need increased manuverability at the cost of stability and weight carrying capacity.

Early scooters were gas powered, and some - especially outdoor specific - still are. However, these days most mobility scooters are battery powered and offer quiet, comfortable performance without attracting too much attention. These rechargable batteries last for many years and electric scooters are usually the best value because they require little to no maintenance besides charging.

Best Mobility Scooter Brands

There are many brands and manufacturers of mobility scooters. Throughout the years several companies have earned reputations for building the highest quality mobile scooter models. These include Lark, Rascal and Pride for starters, along with some other great brands.

Other popular scooter makers include Shoprider, Mega Motion, Zip'r, Drive, Phoenix, Odyssey and EV Rider. When choosing a mobility scooter, be sure to look into the warranty options and battery recharging capacity. Remember that you usually get what you pay for, so buying a cheap or inexpensive scooter might cost you more money in the long run.
