New Way to Make Money Online - Almost as Good as Money in the Bank

By Misha

I am always looking out for new ways to make more money online with less effort, even with mapquest. Recently I came across an innovation that you may want to hear about because it may affect the way you earn with your website in the very near future. I just signed up myself, and I decided I want to share it with you, guys, too. I think there is enough room there for everybody...

As you may know, major television networks are in trouble because their advertising revenue is dropping. At least people say so. TV networks are losing market share to the Internet. More and more people prefer to consume news themselves on their own schedule rather then being fed with something already half-processed, and on the schedule set by somebody else.

For the first time in history, website owners are sharing in the ad revenue that was formerly spent with the giant TV networks. Advertisers like Harley Davidson, HBO & Taco Bell are willing to pay you and me on 100% of our website traffic to make up for the loss of viewers that the big TV networks are experiencing.

"Thanks" to Google, we all got used to pay per click (PPC, or more "professional" CPC - cost per click) ads, and many newcomers to the business even do not know that there are other methods, more favorable for publishers. The best would be cost per time (CPT) of course, when you set up an ad once, and get paid a fixed sum of almost free money on the regular basis no matter what. As long as you are in, it is as good as the money in the bank.

Next to the best is CPI or CPM - cost per impression or thousand impressions (Latin Mille or Roman numeral M). Under this method you get paid by the number of impressions, i.e. how many times you displayed the ad to your visitors. No action is needed on the user side, nobody counts clicks, you don't have to worry about optimization or click fraud. Your only worry is traffic - the more traffic you bring to the page with this ad, the more money you make.

This new program I stumbled upon uses CPM method with a twist, and they call their method PPP - pay per Play. What is play? Play is a 5 second long context targeted audio ad, which is played once per page per visitor, right after the page loads. This is the twist, and this is the innovation. Nobody else did such kind of ads before on the Internet, as far as I know.

So, if you join, you get paid every time visitor opens the page with ad code. The more pages and visitors you have, the more you get paid. The good news are - if you have a website or blog, this service will complement whatever monetizing model you have in place already. Well, the bad news are - you can't use it on Hubpages. Not until HP staff looks into this and possibly adds this program to the list.

OK, I'm not teasing you any more, go read what they have to say about their service - here is the link - Ooops, there is no my affiliate link any more. Unfortunately, those guys went belly up...

Perhaps, you might want to learn how to beat a speeding ticket, or to browse through my selection of coach handbags. In fact, you might even find it entertaining going to my main site and reading a few articles about safe driving, including Joshua Nestor's report on TX defensive driving

Hey Misha, thanks for sharing... might just prove to be another technique for those high traffic sites, the best part about ppp is it doesn't take visitors off the page and only plays 5 secs of audio so there's plenty of scope for multiple passes.

Guys, thanks for stopping by and taking time to comment! Frankly I did not expect such an overwhelming response. Looks like I managed to touch on everybody's interest here :D

Highwaystar, I don't think it is for high traffic sites only. It will not turn a lackluster into a money machine of course, but I think it is capable of paying better than adsense - providing they pay as they advertise.

Kelly, it's an idea ;) I should consider writing ebook on this before everyone else did :D

Mark, sure, I realize that thing could be annoying. We can't tell until we try, though.

I have had literally 1000s of people signed up for 100s of different pre-launches over the past 10 years that never worked. OK guys,

I had this on my main site for about a month and a half. Theprogram was not very active - it played ads around 3000 times out of more than 500,000 total pageviews. For that 3000 impressions they promise to pay me $10.30, which translates into more than $3 CPM.

Not too bad for a supplemental ad system, and actually could have been great if they could cover all of my pageviews. The obvious lack of advertisers leads to very low coverage - about 0.5% in my case...

Vic, no big news here. As I said in my last update, they don't have enough ads to display. Currently I have something like $23 on my account, and it is still from about 0.5% of total pageviews they can use.

I myself never heard the ad on my site yet :)

So far I keep them, waiting for things to get clearer. $10 a month are not making a difference of course - but still can pay for a lunch :)

Prasadjain,

Either you don't understand, or I don't understand you.

This site pays you for placing advertisement on your own site. Pretty much like Google Adsense. And that's it. I don't invest neither time nor money. I just placed a small piece of code to my site, which took me less than 5 minutes.

So far I made a tad less than $23 from this.

Eric Graudins profile image

Eric Graudins  says:

@quiet tracer:

Yep - sure is time consuming to build a site for with good content.

You may even have to do some - shudder- WORK!

But this is the type of site that Google increasingly favours.

So if you have an interest in a particular subject area, why not build a good site and continually build on it.

There are many schemes out there that rely on setting up hundreds of websites on different topics and sticking adsense, Private Label content, and/or RSS feeds on them.

Google are getting very good at penalising these sites, so that they appear on page 236 of the listings - or go to the sandbox and don't appear at all.

Misha profile image

Misha  says:

funnebone,

Like with any other piece of advertisement, you need to place a piece of code they give you on your site - and then just check their reports section.

If you have any specific question, post it, and I'll try to answer :)

I can't find it anywhere (unless I am just to tired and missed it) - but the code is on the way so i will soon find out!!!!

IF the ads do NOT directly compete with my own services, this will be great if it really is as *good* as it sounds made out to be...

If they Do compete - then the advertisers are BOOBS and the thing won't fly.

I am skeptical after being hosed by commission junction for 3500.00$ (no, I am NOT kidding OR lieing) a few years back.  $3500.00 they just DID not pay me...long story but NO excuse on their part - they still legally OWE me that money and so...you can see why I am a skeptic until something is tried, true, tested and majorly - the $$ comes into the bank (or paypal) REGULARLY!!!

I know there are people making a lot of money online, although I never really met anyone yet who was an online millionaire. That almighty internet buck is an elusive one. I have been online since 1996, and at first I could make a lot of money selling books....but after a few years that fell by the wayside when everyone else started doing the same thing. Magnoliazz,

Sure you can use it on any number of sites you want, providing you are allowed to modify HTML there. I can't update you on the status, cause my main workstation is still down, and all my passwords are there. I'm pretty much sure there is nothing too exciting over there, cause based on what I read in other places those guys are still struggling to get some kind of traction with getting more ads.

I did not get any payment from them yet, and I'll look very carefully what is going on over there as soon as I have my workstation back.

As for Ebay and Amazon - they don't work too good for me on Hubpages, cause my hubs are more a general information kind than product oriented, so I just use them for decorative purposes, and I thought I don't need any extra decoration on this particular hub :)

OK, I got my workstation back, and here is my whopping revenue stats since mid-March:

Don't ask me why most of the money is held pending review :)

Thank you for this hub Misha.

Sorry in advance for posting as a new subscriber, but I do need to get this off my chest

I'm concerned for newbies, as many spend their time and bread money on internet marketing hoping to make some quick money.

All this talk about making a few cents at a time from stacks of sources should make some stop and think, as it is in stark contrast to the many sites promising thousands a month in income with little work.

As well as being new to hubpages, I am a noob. Have stayed that way for years despite huge ammount of time spent learning.

I still have not found one reliable way to earn a living online, although I have been in business for forty years offline.

What I need is to be able to put good product online and have them sell.

This is not easy to do with any sort of volume in any market I know of.

Look at what you need to spend if you do get some sales of your own product.

It is very hard to get any net.

Auto-responder fees, shopping cart fees, list hosting, testing time, advertising costs run in to thousands a week.

How do I know? My daughter turns over 4k a week. Thats 16k a month.

She sells a simple ebook, and with expenses cannot live off the net return.

As her list has grown to over 125k she has had to buy more bandwidth, pay more for her list hosting on her shopping cart, and needs more online services.

The internet is not suited to anyone looking to get rich quick, or even slow if they want to maintain their integrity.

It is a geek game, and complex as all hell.

A hand full of people know how to do the tech stuff, you know, stuffing every article with and creating authoritive backlinks with methods that they do not tell about.

I do have friends who make a living on line. Nobody sees them. All they do is work and have no time for family, which is why they started to work at home in the first place. And this after years online and hundreds of websites and blogs.

They are the big winners, not noobs like me, or most of the fine people here.

I see where you come from Earnetshub, and I think it is not THAT bad. It is difficult, but based on what I experience first hand and see around, Internet business is not too different from brick-and mortar one. Yes, there are technological things involved, but you always can hire some geek to do this part for you - pretty much like in any other business.

Good thing about Internet business - it does not require big monetary investment, at least to start and become profitable. I don't know why your daughter's expenses are THAT high. Until recently my expenses were within a few hundred bucks a month, and still stay around one thousand. And profits are in the several thousands range. Way better ratio than any brick-and mortar business can do.

It is definitely not a get-rich-quick-doing-nothing thing, it took me a couple of years to become profitable - but most brick-and-mortar businesses take even longer.

I did not sell ebooks myself, but it is considered a pretty profitable model, so I think your daughter needs to rethink her approach and try to identify what she is doing wrong. May be she needs to switch from Adwords to SEO? Put it on Clickbank and let affiliates do the selling for her? Change autoresponder? IDK, she knows better :)

Good luck to her! :)

Thanks for the input Misha, I appreciate it. We have just made some major changes to the home page, and the squeeze page is getting some more testing.

I will tell my daughter to take a look at your hub.

I am so pleased to know someone is making some decent net profit. More power to you!

Thanks Misha!  I, too, have remained a "noob" since first coming online in 1989.  The technologies change so fast that I find it very difficult to keep up with it and just about the time I begin...everything shifts or changes.  LOL.  Thank you for the heads up on this new PPP.

Last night, while searching for a different type of generating internet income, I came across something called PPP also.  But it is a Pay-Per-Post thing for creating articles and ads for writers.

Since, I haven't yet gotten a web page or a blog up myself to do the Pay Per Play ads, I will hope to employ this later on.

BTW Even $20.00 a month from several ad companies will help offset the prices of a connection to the internet, or help pay for a web host.  You keep up the great work...I plan to watch more of your writings!    =o)

Well Christoph,

I am not that enthusiastic about this anymore. In fact, your comment prompted me to go check what is going on with my account over there, and - horror! - it shows 0 earnings now. Sure, 23 bucks is not a big deal, but I personally don't like to be dealt with like that, so I am removing their code from my site, and also my affiliate link from this hub. For those who are interested, here is the link to their forums... http://www.sellppp.com/viewforum.php?f=3

Misha...I big thumbs up for this hub. It seems everyone is looking for a way to make extra money online. It also seems like there is another scam born every other day. It's very frustrating when you think you finally found a way to make some extra money, and it just turns into another big dud. Thanks for being honest and giving us the heads up on this program

LOL Thanks Magnoliazz :)

I frankly don't know what to do with the hub - I am done with those guys, but I am sort of reluctant to bring the hub down, cause it serves as an alert for others, and - may be this is a real reason? - every now and then brings home a buck or two in clicks :)

Yes this service is dead, and they never paid. I still keep this hub up cause every now and then I get a click or two, so there is no reason in bringing it down.

Lgali, when you post such short generic comments, they go directly to spam, and it hurts your hubscore dearly...
