I may be a 36 years old Mom here, but I am a gamer too! Make no mistake... once the kids are in bed, and I'm done with the dishes, mopping and laying out their clothes for tomorrow, I turn into a hungry gamer, eager to show my worth as a Warcraft Master. Or is it Mistress?

And so, as we march across shopping malls, it's not just my husband or the kids that gravitate towards the computer gaming shops. I enjoy spending time there as much as they do.

We hardly ever shop there though. We decided that shopping online works better for us. So, we use Amazon's fast and reliable services for pretty much all of our gaming gear and games.

And how do we choose the next cool game to discover? This is where the top selling games lists on Amazon come in handy! So, without further ado, I bring you the five top selling PC games from Amazon in October 2008. Check out the Amazon capsule on the right here, and click on any of the games for more details.

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Expansion Pack

At number 1, we bring you the creme de la creme of real time roleplay games: World of Warcraft. This game is so highly addictive, you can find online support groups for WoW widows! This game does not take place on your computer, but on a virtual world that exists on its maker's servers. Buying the game pack is only the start here... you have to pay them a monthly fee in order to actually play the game. In fact, it's so addictive, it comes with built-in parental control measures that let you supervise and pre-limit the hours spent playing this game.

Fallout 3

Here's a game you can play alone on your computer. A single player game that is just as addictive nonetheless. The fallout in the title is, of course, nuclear fallout, covering Washington DC (aka Capital Wasteland in the years after the great war of 2077). Time to come out of the shelter, and face the horrors that have evolved on the face of the earth... giant insects, mutants, slavers, you name it - this world is full of dangers all in rich detail and hi-res graphics.

Far Cry 2

Ubisoft, the makers of this game, have really excelled themselves this time. Far Cry 2 takes you into a breath taking journey into Africa, all in amazingly rich graphics and real-time playing that even inlcudes night and day cycles! Yes, you fight enemies in this game, but why not treat yourself to a realistic safari while at it?

Spore

Now, here is an original game. Something that makes the headlines not only in gaming circles, but in magazines and newspapers across the globe. Spore lets you manage the world, literally play God. You start from the very beginning of evolution, and can create your own species and carry it through to its own civilization and culture. The possibilities are endless, so expect to spend many hours playing this immensely popular PC game.

Nancy Drew: The Haunting of Castle Malloy

Ok, I cheat a little here. This game is technically at number six this month. However, since what we have at number five is Fallout 3 again (the collector's edition this time), I figured some manipulation was in order. And indeed, this is a different kind of game altogether. One for the girls, if I may say so (being a female who prefers Warcraft, myself). This Nancy Drew episode takes you to a real Irish wedding, complete with flowers, dresses and a romantic castle. There is a mystery to be solved of course, but above all there is atmosphere, and a typical Nancy Drew feel to the game. The perfect gift for Nancy Drew fans.
