Renting vs Buying luxury real estate

The luxury apartment market continues to be volatile, and to decline in value, and there is an increasing argument in favor of renting rather than buying. Most pundits agree that it is a renters market currently. As an example – Avalon Towers on the Peninsula, CA offers mountain view apartments with everything one could desire from an apartment complex.

A state of the art fitness centre; outdoor pool with sundeck; concierge service; a fully equipped business center with multiple phone lines; covered parking or garages, the list just goes on. The apartments themselves are fitted out in the latest luxury with genuine granite counter tops, ceramic bathroom floors, real Maple wood cabinetry; central air-con, fully equipped gourmet kitchens and stunning mountain views.

The building is pre-wired for Advanced Telecom, Satellite and cable TV and high speed Internet. According the developers, ‘we've created a selection of amenities so integrated into our community that we consider them to be "Essential Luxuries."’

Just a year ago, this type of apartment complex would have cost a small fortune to rent, but current prices start from less than $2,000 a month. Avalon is within walking distance of almost everything one could need. Walkscore.com gives Avalon a 74/100 score “very walkable,” and there are coffee shops, grocery stores, (including a whole foods market) and restaurants within a short walk. Convenience and desirability in one building makes this an attractive proposition in a volatile real estate market. My own thinking is that sales prices still have a way to fall and I would be unwilling to commit to buying an apartment at the moment. Avalon provides a secure alternative.

Avalon Towers on the peninsula is situated at 2400 West El Camino Real Mountain View, CA 9404, within easy reach of highways 101, 85 and 280.

Hi Nancy - I would say so yes. These apartments are priced considerably lower than they would have been a few years ago. I would not buy at the moment, I would rent.
