2009 Catch Up
So at a suggestion Ive decided to try and keep a blog with training
etc. updates until the big ironman race i plan on doing 2010.
......sure why not. Will see how long i can keep this up..haha........
A brief summary of some of the 2009 year up till now.......
So I ended 2008 with a totally gnarly injury while doing some
jui-jitsu. Broke some ribs on my left side and screwed up my ankle and
knee slighlty(ironic cause i severley broke some ribs on my right side
a year earlier). Didn't keep me off the mountain though. Started out
2009 with a trip to Breckinridge, CO to stay with my awesome buddy
Nicky for about a week of snowboarding. If only I could've taken the
Kiley, which would have been so sweet. Good times working on the half
pipe and quarter pipe and rails, AND my broke ribs! Gotta love some
vicoden, or however you spell it,lol! Made some more great friends hope
to kick it with again. 2 days before i was supposed to leave I came
crashing down from a simple 180 on the quarter pipe. My tail hit the
lip and sent me head first into the wall. Totally screwed up my ankle
and knee further. and I had to hobble down the mountain. Spent the rest
of the time hobbling around and just kickin it and drinkin with the
crew. Still an awesome trip, and I WILL get down that 180 backside and
360 next year!!!! Goodtimes!
Hobbled around on crutches for a couple weeks. Started off the training
with a 10k obstacle course run in Jacksonville,FL called the
Jacksonville Mudrun benefitting MS. So much fun, you just have to check
out the website to see what its about. Should have got first but a
wordrobe malfunction cost me 2 places and got 3rd overall. Not bad i
guess considering my ankle was still on the fritz.
Next was a 5k in Columbus,Ohio at the Arnold Classic Fitness and
Bodybuilding expo. Had a blast and ran my first sub six mile. First
mile was run in 5minutes 45 seconds. Felt great considering the
previous day was spent eating every sample of protein bar, shake, and
supplement offered at the fitness expo(BLEH), then a late night of
drinking tequila shots and some wine too i think. Didnt feel all that
till just after mile 2...then oh boy. I finished the race with a time
around 21 minutes somethin....which i excepted just fine because just
after mile 2 i took a brief hiatis to eject my stomach contents(puke)
behind a concrete baracade on the side of the road.LOL ! So, ok time
,and i still took away my fastest clocked mile to date.
Other 5k's completed this year are a 5k in Harbortown here in memphis, and the Youth Village 5k,1st in age group time 20:32.
GOAL 1)GET 5k down to 19Min.!!!
First tri this year was the RebelMan Sprint Tri at OleMiss. Finished
with an 8th place in my age group,44th overall.Horrible, but i hadnt
really started training besides some swimming, which i ranked 2nd in my
age group, 600yrds, 6min 50sec. This was an awful tri. Not very well
put together. After coming out of the swim, the route to the transition
was quite confusing and misleading costing several seconds. Running
outside with just wet biking shorts on, into 47 degree cloudy weather
SUCKED ASS!!! I was cold the whole race. I did enjoy riding in the aero
position on my friends bike. Was super hilly and i hadn't been on a
bike since the previous year. The run was horrible too. Not being used
to cold weather, i found my stomach cramping severley towards the
middle of the run, slowing my jog to a sluggish 8 minute pace . I hope
i never experience pain like that again! At least the tri season had
officially started, and I was sooo stoked about that!!!With the First
OD tri coming up in May and just 2 weeks after that I will be fighting
through my first half Ironman in Macon,Georgia. Can't wait to compare
this years tri times with last years. Will be a great way to see how
far I've come, I HOPE! I know my cardio has improved significantly.
Read 2 great books this year:Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer, and
Breakthrough Triathlon Training by Brad Kearns. Both Amazing books on
the must read list. Even the Brad Kearns book is not really a training
book and could inspire just about anyone to really find what they love. Links to books are below if you wanna check em out.
Other exciting news, i just bought myself a real tri bike! A 06'
Cannondale Ironman 5000. Should get it Monday as well as a new wetsuit.
A 2008 Zootsuit Zenith! Got great deals on both these off ebay and I
can't wait to begin training with both.Should help shave a bunch of
time off! Also will be getting a second job this summer lifeguarding.
FUN FUN! Well that's it for now....hope to give more specific training
details in the future, just playin quick catch up for this first
entry.....LATE!
