Your Glycemic Index and Fat Loss
55The dreaded scales
Have you ever felt yourself crash physically? You know what I mean... suddenly finding yourself weak, tired, dizzy, or otherwise feeling worn out.
This occurs when your blood sugar has dropped too low and your brain doesn't have the neergy requirements it needs to function optimally.
When you eat incorrectly your blood sugar levels will vary wildly throughout the day. Your body is not designed to be really effective in this environment. Maybe if you could have a sugar IV drip providing a constant even supply you would feel great all the time. Unfortunately this is a little impractical.
You can however control your blood sugar levels by the food you eat.
How so?
Consider this. High glycemic index foods break down rapidly into sugars and you therefore dump large quantities of sugar into your blood. Your body then dumps insulin into your blood to clear the sugar out.
What is best for you is to eat Low Glycemic index foods. Foods rated below 55 on the scale.
These will slowly break down and release sugars at a slower... more controlled rate. Your body doesn't have to do the insulin dance and you'll feel much better.
If you eat high glycemic foods you'll find yourself looking for something to eat in about an hour or so. Why? Well the sugars have been used up and you go into the crash cycle where you are tired, can't think clearly etc. What this means is you want another quick sugar fix... a food which will kick in quickly to keep you going. This is a recipe for weight gain... not fat loss.
So, if you want to eat healthier and feel your best, you need to look for foods with a low glycemic index.
