What is NAC supplement?

NAC (N-acetyl-L-Cycteine) supplement is an adapted form of the amino acid Cysteine. NAC supplements have been shown to increase levels of the antioxidant glutathione in the body which is known to be an effective antioxidant. Antioxidants such as glutathione can reduce cell damage, increase the rate of recovery from injury and contribute to muscle growth.

How does NAC supplement work?

NAC essentially helps the body remove toxins and NAC supplements are one of the most powerful antioxidants that you can get hold of. Antioxidants are substances that hunt free radicals in the body. Free radicals are damaging pariticles that damage cell membranes and even cause cell death. Free radicals occur naturally in the body, but environmental toxins (such as cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption, and pollution), and physical activity (such as weight training or cycling) can also increase the quantity of these hurtful particles. Free radicals wreak havoc on your health, your recovery from exercise and your immune system. They are believed to contribute to the aging process as well as the development of health problems including heart disease and cancer. Antioxidants such as glutathione can destroy free radicals and may reduce or even help prevent and repair some of the damage they cause.

It is because NAC supplement protects against free radical damage that they can possibly accelerate muscle growth. apparently, NAC was shown to completely prevent the muscle loss that normally occurs as part of the aging process in one specific study. NAC has also been shown to dramatically reduce muscle fatigue during exercise. This is one reason why it's popular with bodybuilders and strength athletes seeking to gain muscle size and weight and is included in many popular supplements, especially meal replacement powders that are consumed regularly throughout the day. It is also noted that the powerful Glutathione aids in the transport of nutrients to various immune cells, and to protect cell membranes. NAC supplements are also thought to be a better source method of boosting cellular glutathione levels. Endurance athletes (such as long-distance runners, cyclists or triathletes) report that taking NAC supplements help them tolerate large volumes of training while remaining free of illness. This is true also of the very intensely training resistance athletes, for instance power lifters.

NAC is one of the most studied of all the antioxidants, NAC supplements are therefore considered to be one of the safest supplements available. Thanks to its many uses, They  have become very popular for athletes as it reduces muscle damage and strengthens the immune system, NAC supplements are used by endurance athletes, for example by cyclists and long distance runners. Many athletes also include NAC supplements in their diet when they are in the early stages of injury recovery.Athletes that need to increase muscle mass will find NAC supplement extremely useful also, rugby players, american football, and wrestlers are some examples.

You are increasingly unlikely to succum to illness or infection by taking NAC supplement. This is especially important when performing a large amount of heavy training or exercise.
