Why You Should Never Even Think About Hydroquinone When You Want To Lighten Your Skin

Natural skin lightening is a hot topic for those who suffer from skin discoloration, age spots and hyperpigmentation. There are six reasons why you should avoid dangerous substances when treating your skin condition. After reading this article, you would not want to use skin bleaching products that contain harmful chemicals such as hydroquinone.

  1. Many products for skin discoloration mercury and hydroquinone. These chemicals are carcinogenic which can lead to cancer. If you use them for a very long time, the risk of developing cancer is very high.
  2. Hydroquinone can cause fatal liver and kidney damage. This chemical can absorb into your blood stream when applied on the skin. Many reports around the world have stated that hydroquinone is not safe for human consumption.
  3. When you apply it on your skin, it will react with ultra violet rays which lead to oxidation. This will cause higher incidence of pigmentation and premature ageing. You will apply more of this harmful substance in trying to lighten the darkened skin.
  4. Melanin helps to protect your skin. Skin cancer develops because hydroquinone inhibits the production of melanin. When you skin don't have enough melanin, you are exposed to the higher risk of developing skin cancer.
  5. Hydroquinone may lighten your skin but it is only temporary. After several months. the process will be reversed which cause the chemical to destroy the cells underneath the skin. Gradually the skin becomes dark and you may look like a weird person with blue black spots. Although only 2% of hydroquinone is allowed for all skin lightening creams but there are no reports that say that they are safe to use.
  6. If you use it on a long-term basis, the collagen fibers become thicker. This will damage the connective tissues which leave you with rough blotchy skin with a spotty caviar appearance.

As you can see, hydroquinone is not suitable to lighten your skin. You should choose natural skin lightening ingredients such as alpha-arbutin, alpha lipoic acid, licorice extract and kojic acid. Usually when these botanical extracts are blended together, they have shown to provide an evenly toned and radian skin. They have not been reported to cause long term side effects such as skin cancer, kidney damage or liver damage. So, always think of holistic approach when you want to treat your skin problems.

Hi, I agree with what you've said in your hub. Alpha Arbutin is a great ingredient, however, it's actually not as widely used as Arbutin which is far less effective... One doenside to AA is that it does have some sensitisation issues. Thanks for the info.
