NATURE’S DELIGHT

THE BRILLIANCE OF DAWN

Emeralds and sapphires
They are all gone!
Out on the blue horizon
And on the fields of azure green
Shimmering in the glorious sunrise
The brilliance of dawn-

I walk beside the lake so calm
And find a place to rest upon
And there beneath the great tree stood
A splendorous sight of great delight
Dancing and frolicking in the dappled light

Out they come in great numbers
Across the clear blue sky
And down upon the valley
To feast on  nature’s breast
They nest and nurture for a season
Upon the Turkey Fig and sweet Bay,
And I watch as I do now,
the mellow fields of hay
The cows in the meadows lazily a graze;
The myriad colours around me
The ribbons of cloud above me
And burst in the sunshine, the white wisteria
From its pale green sheath surround me.

I sit beside the lake, and watch
The colour of water falling through sunlight;
The glitter of trees with their tumbling leaves,
The hours run by in serene wonder
Soon it is the dusk of day.
The moon beams scatter through the twilight
The bird song fades away
Don’t sleep my gentle one, please rise
Tomorrow is another day.
