A Review of the Navigon 2100T Portable GPS
I was shocked when my father phoned our home to say that he did not know where he was. And then I got concerned right away and started to panic. Right away I started thinking that perhaps he has alzheimers or something even worse. This could not be happening, he was a taxi driver. After my finding out that information, I questioned him. Ok, tell me what exactly are you near? Is there anyone around that you can see that might be able to help you, how about any restaurants or street signs? Did you cut off the car? Arrgghh! Be honest, what were you thinking when your old man said he was not sure where his turn was to get to the range, that he was getting old? I only ask because your face showed such surprise as well as some relief when he said "Rabbit, it's because there are some new streets on this side of town. I was relieved to find out he was still in his right mind.
At the next opportunity, I went to several retail location to look for a GPS my dad could use. It had to be easy because let's face it, he pulls over, gets out of the car and looks up our phone numbers in his hand written address book to use his 'programmed by me' cell phone. He would still have his old humongous phone, if I hadn't shown him different.
After several questions I found the Navigon 2100T portable GPS. In a sense what makes the portable feature really awesome is that it can be put in either the car or the truck. Its not as big as the Cobra GPSM 2500, but not as small as the Magellan Roadmate. He wears bifocals.
Navigon 2100T portable GPS also has excellent 3D graphics! I wasn't able to find this on any of the models I looked at. The roads look enough like they do in real life that my father finds it much easier to navigate.
"Test to speech" technology is included, as well. Wow what a great little feature. I've heard GPS systems in the past that tell you turn left 15 miles down the road. This neat little machine tells you to turn left at "Carlisle Street." My father is aware of streets. Guesstimating 15 miles is a stretch. He's too proud to touch the little button that measures your distance on the car. You're five minutes into it before you realize it was the next left,by the time you've turned down the wrong road. It won't work with the Navigon 2100T portable GPS system.
If you want to get traffice control a nice feature to upgrade to is the replaceable SD card. If you get caught up in traffic, you can find another route to your destination/
And as a bonus, it was very affordable! I finally caved in on Amazon and got two for a little over $300. I needed one also. In fewer than 30 days my father knew the Navigon 2100T portable GPS better than me and was showing me things I didn't know.
