Background of a nerd - An overfed, short-haired geek`
56Starting from scratch
What happens when a nerd starts getting bored?
This same guy, who is basically an unknown except for some pretty exclusive and rather eccentric circle of other corporate-like techno-geeks is fed up to his teeth and beyond with all the overblown hype that the innocents are fed by the un-educated, unknowing so-called experts...?
Let me pose the question and the process to you about how I think.
Here is the background:
I have clients ranging from simple, everyday people to Forbes Top 10 , including some really smart people who have no idea, even with advice about how to use or manage the internet. I have housewives, retirees all
For 14 years almost to the day, I have made my living off the internet.
Whether or not it was building small sites for non-profits; engineering Library sharing systems for people thourghout networks to order books from other places and get them locally; helping with the automated scraping and scanning conversion for the Library of Congress, building ecommerce platforms (before people knew what they were); creating applications turning light and packets into tones for assistive technology screen readers, toolbars for commercial use and the delivery of digital media; Creating VOIP services and watching people freak, because they could talk to another person over an internet connection; Creating digital packet switching for cell phone systems and on and on and on - ad nauseum.
Then there were the forays into local state and federal governement IT systems back in the early1990's - The various armed forces couldn't figure out how to trade inventory levels to keep purchasing under control. I mean really - How difficult was it...? It took a little over 24 hours for me to get ripping mad about the waste and to realize that it was the same bureaucratic non-sense that created the mess that couldn't figure out how to get out of it.
Then you start down the path of the people that just plain don't know how to get going. They won't take ahold of their own bootstraps and stand up.
So here's where this is all going - I'm starting a web site from scratch. No outside influence. No hosting account, a brand new domain, etc... I think you get the point.
This is written on the fly - no spell checks, just raw stuff.
Here was my personal challenge... - What can you do with ultra-competitive keywords, no hosting account, no traffic and no one searching for your site? Answer: Start from scratch.Self-imposed 96 (4 day) time limit – I have other things to do, so I cannot work on this for more that 2-3 hours at a stretch. Here's the synopsis. Using my own software a brand new domain, NO paid services, unless the trials were available fro $1 or less. I created about 30-35 brand new social media and bookmarking accounts (its all in the spreadsheet I am using to keep track of this)I used free services like http://SEOBook.com and their tools, alonmg with simple, cop-and-paste google searches to find some keywords.I am going to show everyone that I can get to listen, how you can create mrakets for keywords that don't exist and how to enter markets with longtail keywords (3+) and create a list of subscribers, backlinks and avid RSS Subscribers all starting from nothing. At the end of this, I will publsih the domain name and give the report and videos away. Forget it - You don't have to pay thousands of dollars to learn this stuff and make it work.Ohh BTW - I looked at a couple of my friends sites and their high-ranking keywords. Yep, I'm gonna take a shot at them and see how many links I can get to [their] keywords and then see where this NO-NAME, NO-MARKET site shows up in the listings.Yeah - I got better thnigs to do, but I am fed up with the stupid things people do and the way they are regularly hustled out of their money.Enjoy the ride - Win, Lose or Draw In the now famous words of Junie B. Jones, First Grader - Wowiw-wow-wow. Or another favorite... ElouiseOooooohhhhhhh, I just love the .... (the plaza according to her) but me - I like the challenge.TTYL as I progressShare it! — Rate it: up down [flag this hub]
