Steve Jobs' Announcement

At Let's Rock this year, Steve Jobs and Apple introduced the new line of iPods. The Shuffle, Nano, Classic and iTouch all gained a generation. In the case of the Shuffle and Nano, this brought out a variety of bright colors that many iPod users have been waiting for. In regards to the Classic, Apple has introduced a single 120 GB version of the device. The iTouch remained mostly the same with a few hardware changes in its new model.

New & Improved iPods and iTouch

Shuffle

The iPod Shuffle primarily stayed the same. It was introduced in a variety of colors and two size options for those looking for the most portable of iPods on the market. For the most part, the Shuffle remains exactly the same as its previous version.

Nano

The Nano underwent the most significant changes. It now incorporates video and the turn screen feature of the iTouch. When you flip the Nano to the side, it moves video, photo and music to the side, too. This gives you the chance to watch movies and other clips on the device as well as enjoy the sliding album cover feature of the iTouch. The Nano also comes in a variety of colors now and is slimmer than its previous generation along with being somewhat curved in design.

Classic

The iPod Classic comes in black and silver and is limited to a 120 GB model. The model is slimmer than its predecessor and still boasts the capability to playback music, video, podcasts and photo slideshows.

iTouch

The primary changes to the iTouch include the ability to download applications from the get go. It also has built-in speakers now so you can list to content without headphones, and you can control the volume via external controls. The prices have also dropped significantly on the different GB versions, most notably a $100 price drop on the 32 GB model.

iTunes 8 With Genius

iTunes 8 introduced a new feature called Genius.  This takes your music and creates playlists you might like based on your tastes.  When turned on, Genius can be activated either in iTunes to create a playlist or while you are listening to music on the go with the iTouch.  When it comes to the iPhone or iTunes, when activated, you can shake the device to shuffle through the playlist.
