Gone are the days when buying a product depended on the word of mouth from the local community and radio advertising. You would go down to your local shop, which was usually a family run business, and you would meet and catch up with what was happening locally and around you while you collect some supplies. When the television came to the scene, the market increased slightly but mainly meant distant customers would come only during specific times of the week and more at specific times of the year.

This still meant establishing long distance relationships and increased the entertainment value. There was more need to visit people even further away from you and when coming back home at weekends, month ends or on holidays. You would come with unique gifts and bring more excitement locally.

Today with the power of the internet, the world has been made a small local market. You do not even leave your home. You can browse and compare a variety of products and even look at the reviews about the same products and when satisfied all the products you want are delivered straight to your door by only a simple click. You do not even need to visit the bank manager nor a teller.

The trips to the office will soon be a thing of the past. When you look at it, we have become domiciled and you wonder what is happening to all the social skills as we know them. When you talk about socialising, the first thing that comes to one's mind is the social network sites like twitter and facebook. It is no wonder that even some religions are now joining the web to deliver the service. They now also get an even better chance to increase the products they can introduce to you to buy as well whetherb you are a member or not.

Everything is now going digital. Soon, if not happening already, you will be buying life online. The virtual world is just possibly one of the introductions to this phenomena. Initially cloning an animal was like a fantasy but now we are debating cloning a human being. What are we turning into? Test tube babies! Who knew you could conceive a child this way. We all knew mother nature had his own ways of creating life. Now we are acting as the Creators of life. We come up with reasons to make all this moral.

Well, who knows anymore what is moral and what is not. We create cars that can go up to a specific speed and yet we impose speed limits all in the name of safety. Human beings! We are very interesting. We love destroying. When we say we are creating, literally speaking, we are destroying. As we all know, bad news sell.

Hang on, this means creating more debts out of debts. Will we ever be financially independent? Maybe I am wrong, when will these debts be paid in full? This literally means I will always be working for the government paying for debts that will never be repaid. Is this right? I remember the good old days when money reflected the gold reserves at hand. I do not say that this was a best method, however at the end of the year, our fathers did get bonuses or thirteenth cheque, which today is a thing of the past. You do not get bonuses anymore. If anything, you are requested to add more hours of work for no pay. Basically we are being kept more at work and the good old family time is gone. We are back to slavery only this time it is not race related.

It is no wonder why there are so many divorce cases. Literally speaking, you see your partner at home in the morning. The next time you meet would be late at night possibly in bed. Even the weekends are taken by the work schedule and you think of the deadlines and targets to meet. The best friend you end up having is your business partner. Look at this, you end up with so many meetings you make planning for the next project. There are always meetings about meetings and when you succeed, whom do you celebrate this with?

This has got to change! Life is moving too fast. Why should everything have targets and deadlines? We should all enjoy life as it was supposed to be. Really, there is still enough of everything for everyone. Maybe money should be changed and be replaced with a different form of commodity. If we do not realise it, very few people will end up having money and thus the dictators. As we all know, too much power to the few can be lethal. We can all share and enjoy this life.

I still repeat, there is enough for everyone. We all have a variety of talents as well as expertise and most will be happy to share these for the benefit of multitude and most of the times at no cost. This system is creating so many sharks! Change it!

When I look at the African heritage and culture, I can only sit down and admire the beauty and its riches. How difficult was it to find a wife in the good old days. A friend of mine told me this about their habits when growing up.

As a youngster, your activities followed you everywhere you went. This meant in order to be respected in the community as a Zulu boy, you had to show heroic behaviour. This could take any form even killing a lion for the king - this especially for a true warrior. Obviously not everyone had to go through this. You could sit back and be a nobody. Obviously as a warrior, there were so many benefits. The Zulu king Shaka also to go through some tough situations before he could become a king.

Anyway back to my story, now at the time, in order to make fire, woods needed to be collected and mostly done by women and girls. Not only did they do this they also collected water from the rivers. The boys would go out looking after the herds of kettle and or go out hunting with men. During their outings, the boys would play some games which were mostly fighting with sticks. There were risks of being injured but these were all taken as part of growing up and rising up on their hierarchy of importance. These fighting games could even go on between different clans.

Sometimes during special functions these fighting games would take place and the winner would be given a special meat and the respect. This was all some form of marketing and advertising as this person could at some stage in his life be nominated for a great position closer to a king. His family would be respected and is likely to have followers and thus easily his army.

Some of the activities that boys enjoyed doing was to propose ladies. The most common spot was by the river as it was commonly known that mothers never fetched water unless they had no children to send. Water was usually carried on in the calabash. The boys would tease these girls and at times the calabash may end up falling and spilling all the water. But that is a story for another day. As a boy you had to be good with words otherwise you would end up with no girlfriend and other boys would tease you and call you names. If you were excellent with your sticks, that would give you extra points and as such your actions would supercede you and thus the luck with girls. Again this was marketing at its best.

Today, it is so interesting to note how quickly and how much things have changed and yet the results are still the same. Men do not propose any more but the girls do. The more successful you are as a man, the more likely are you to have ladies following you. Look at Barack Obama, how many ladies would love to be Michelle today? David Beckham and Posh, Beyonce Knowles and Jayzee, the list is endless. Again, there is still one common thing here. The more successful you are and the more people know about you, the more likely you are to have people of the opposite sex following you.

It is not only that, with all this fan club comes more business success. Remember when Michael Jackson's Thriller came on the scene? How many people bought his jacket? Today, how many people are buying David Beckham's jersey? If you develop your brand well and get the ideal marketing strategy in place, the list of opportunities is endless. It doesn't matter that there is a recession or downturn, there will always be the market available for the ideal product.
