Cool Running

This is as close as you'll get to an iPod shoe. Apple and Nike have combined forces to create an innovative invention. Nike+ is the love-child of a pair of sporty Nike shoes and your iPod Nano. The The Nike+iPod accelerometer is mounted under the inner sole of the shoe and communicates with a receiver plugged into the base of your iPod nano. iTunes can then be used to view the walk or run history. The kit stores a slew of workout stats such as the distance travelled, the elapsed time of the workout, your running pace, or calories burned by the shoe wearer, and displays it on the screen or broadcasts it through the headphones.

What's in the Box

  • Wireless sensor for Nike+ shoes
  • Wireless receiver for iPod nano

A Nike+ shoe with a special pocket in which to store the device is recommended by Nike. However, users can use their own shoe by placing the accelerometer in a cavity which they create under the insole or by attaching it to the laces with a pouch. To their credit, Nike has released the accelerometer for individual sale meaning that you no longer have to purchase the whole set.

With the Nike+ iPod Sport Kit, your iPod nano has been transformed into your very own personal trainer. It's time to lace up your kicks, queue up some of your favorite tracks, and watch as the real-time feedback starts coming in. For even more fun after the workout, you can track your performance on your Mac or PC by visiting the Nike+ website, where you will have the ability to name runs, interact, meet and challenge other runners, or just ask questions, and give feedback. You can order the shoe or the $29 iPod add-on from Apple.
