Nipple pain and Nipple sensitivity during breastfeeding

Lanolin should help relieve normal sensitive nipples which is a common thing to have during the first three weeks of breastfeeding. After a while your nipples will become tougher and won’t be as sensitive.

Pain of the nipple of breast during breastfeeding can be caused by bad latching on, thrush, mastitis or maybe your nipples are sore because of baby biting on them.

How to treat sore nipples

- A cold compress between feedings is a good way of relieving yourself of the pain

- Ibuprofen is safe to take for pain relief during breastfeeding

- You can also take your own milk and rub it into the sore nipple, which will accelerates healing

- A mother’s own milk, gently rubbed into the wound, is just as soothing and actually accelerates healing (not to be done if you have mastitis as yeast grows and thrives with milk)

Natural cure for thrush during breastfeeding:

- Gentian violet

Stop baby from biting your nipples?

Baby wants to use you as a teether, use any teething remedies you find work the best (e.g. teething tablets) and unlatch baby when he bites.

If you are latching properly you will have a lower chance of getting sore, cracked painful nipples. Read more about proper latching.
