An Evolution rather than Revolution?

It's been rumoured for a while now, after all it's been more than a few months since the N95-8gb was released but Nokia have gone official with the next mobile phone at the top of their range, the N96.

At a glance it looks alot like it's older brother the N95, keeping the black theme and dual sliding mechanism from the preivous model whilst adoptign a more rounded and slimmer profile. Specifications-wise the details are worryingly similar to the preiovus model, aside from the increased 16gb internal memory although nokia is quick to mention that this model is aimed more towards the video playing mobile phones market.

The handset has a built in DVB-H tuner so TV on the move is obviously something Nokia is anticipating that will take off over in the west, (The Japanese market is flooded with 1-Seg capable mobile phones) and it even plays ball with Slingbox Media streamers which have enjoyed popularity in America but not so much this side of the Atlantic.

One curious addition is the fold out stand on the back of the handset which allows you to set the phone down on it's side, something Nokia tried to make a point of with previous mobile phones like the N95-8gb when they said it had a flatter side for setting the phone down to watch videos/take pictures of yourslef using the timer function.

Despite the little differences on the inside of the phone it's the cosmetic changes that are going to help this mobile phone fly off the shelf, and with a little tweaking Nokia may have got themselves a winner yet again!

The appearance of the N96 looks like a mish-mash of the N95-8gb and the N81.

Wow. I am still stuck with N91. Initially I was very much attracted to N91. Now I don't Like it. Sound and Picture quality is not as good as they promise. Next time I am going to get N96 (Let the price Fall Down)

Hmm, isn't that what always happens with phones, you like one then when you get it, another takes your eye :)

Well as cool as the N96 is I think I'll be sticking with my N95-8gb, there's not enough changes aside from the storage space, but then again I've barely dented the 8gb on my phone. All my music is on my Zune80

I like the look of it too, looks a lot like the N85 but the one thing that has turned me off it is that in order to use the TV/ BBC iPlayer you need to have a working WLAN or 3G conneciton, a bit disapppointing as that'd an a massive extra cost
