What is SEO?

SEO stands for search engine optimization. It basically involves optimising your site with the goal or ranking higher in search engines for particular keywords, thus bringing organic traffic to your site.

It can be divided into two parts, on site seo and off site seo.

On site seo involves properly optimising the pages of your site for search engines. It is what the seo you perform on the web pages of your site

Off site seo involves building backlinks to your site from other sites. Search engines view these backlinks to your sites as votes for your site, and thus building backlinks helps increase a sites search engine rankings.


On Site Seo Checklist

Here are some tips you should keep in mind when performing on site seo

  • Write unique Title Tags which include your main keywords for very page
  • Write meta description tags for everypage
  • Use static seo friendly url's which include your keywords
  • Noindex pages likes admin and register pages( if using a cms like wordpress)
  • Nofollow all links to contact us pages, privacy policy pages etc
  • include keywords in the alt tags of images
  • give relevant names to images
  • if possible, buy a domain which include your keywords
  • maintain a good site structure
  • use breadcrumbs if possible
  • use a simple text link navigation menu
  • always write unique and original content
  • make proper use of the heading tags, and include your keywords in them
  • Link to related pages on your site from within the content of posts
  • Whenever linking to pages within your site, use keyword rich anchor text
  • when writing articles, remember to use your keyword throughout. But keep keyword density to about 5%.
  • use the bold tag around your keyword and some places in the article
  • Use different forms and versions of your keywords throughout your post, so that your content looks natural and not overstuffed with the same keyword: Eg, web design, web designing, web designer.
  • try to include your keywords in the beginning of the article and also on the first line of every paragraph ( if possible )
