Are all men dogs?

You might hear a woman say, "Men are all the same" or "All men are dogs". This comes from the aftermath of a man being caught in cheater-mode or possibly after the words, "It's not you, it's me" have been uttered for the hundredth time. Society tends to accept the notion that a man will be a dog by way of lying and cheating and everything in between. It's simply accepted among the human race. To some, a one night stand is nothing but an opportunity to "play the field" a little.

Double Standards?

But what about women? When a woman is "playing the field" she becomes an instant slut. It is thought to be completely unacceptable in society for a woman to sleep around or go as far as to have a one night stand. If a new relationship arises between a man and a woman and the conversation regarding each other's sexual past comes up, instantly a woman considers these questions: "Do I tell him the truth?", "Will he think I'm a slut?", "Will he still like me after he knows?". Her answer might be a mere 3 or 4, it might be more than 10, it just depends on the person. But if she doesn't answer 0-2, she's been around. Men don't tend to like a girl who has been around the block more times than he has. Some men don't even like a woman who has seen the other side of the block, much less been around it a few times.

Is she worth it?

If a man gets lucky and finds a girl who might make everything worthwhile, he is willing to bend his own rules and accept her past as just that; the past. Forgive and forget her indiscretions and move forward with the relationship. But what happens when he finds out that she's had a few sexual encounters with her past relationships or "flings" but wants to "take it slow" and make him wait for the good lovin? This might cause some problems. He might feel that she gave it up to the others but she's holding out on him. Why? Has she used all of her sexual energy on them? Is she all sexed out? What's the problem?

On the other hand, if he meets his woman while answering the "booty call", the relationship could possibly have a chance. He knows her deal, he knows what she's about and if they can move forward as a couple, it's a match. Happily ever after. Unless of course, he thinks she's a slut and she thinks he's a dog. At that point, the relationship is doomed.

Leaving the past in the past...is it possible?

Of course, a man doesn't want to spring into a relationship for the long-haul with a woman who has a colorful sexual past. Remember the term "sloppy seconds"? But a few men in the past isn't a reason to completely discard a good relationship. It's less likely that a one night stand will turn into lasting love. The fact of the matter is, a one night stand is meant to be just that; one night. No names, no strings, just sex. That's it. Bang, boom, bye. No promises to call, no awkward second dates, just one night of unbridled passion and a sayanora in the morning. Relationships usually don't blossom in that fashion. But if a relationship starts out on the right foot, and begins to escalate into something solid, it's possible that all can be forgotten.

The topic of love is always laced with the topic of sex. You can have sex without love, that's proven by the existence of a one night stand. But can you have love without sex? That's the big question. Falling in love can be simple. If you believe in love at first sight, it's easier than you think. But what about incorporating sex into the mix? How likely is the relationship to last without sex? If the woman decides to wait, for whatever reason, waiting until marriage, waiting until the 10th date, it might begin to take a toll on the relationship. The man might begin to feel inadequate, feel like he is unable to please the woman or worse, that she doesn't feel turned on or attracted to him. His mind might begin to wander, and sadly, his eyes too. He might consider looking elsewhere for what's missing. Straying is a big possibility and happens far too often. This is a true test of love. Will it last if a sexual relationship isn't intertwined?

Ah, yes...sex. How important is it?

Sex is important. A man wants to feel like he's the only one who can tame those desires in the one he loves. He wants to know that he can please her like no other. He wants to believe that no other has pleasured her as he does. Sometimes it's better not to know. Asking your woman about her sexual past is often a loaded question. It might be a better practice to avoid the topic altogether. You never know, you might have just found your happily ever after. Why let a number ruin your chance at true happiness?
