Introductory Information on Social Networking Websites
55
Though most of us already know this lets begin by taking a look at exactly what social networking websites are. They are websites that function like a community amongst its members, which are either groups or individuals. The users are provided a means to share in common interests and to socialize. Once a user becomes an established member they can create their own network of contacts and determine their focus.
Now, let’s review what they have to offer. The internet social community is mostly used to keep in touch with friends, family, and classmates. Social network sites provide us with the ability to search for people and find those we have lost contact with. They broaden our means to socialize and enhance the ways we can communicate. They offer us a source of diverse interests, views, and people to network with.
On the internet we are not bound by culture or geography. Internet networking breaks down social barriers and gives individuals the opportunity to interact with people that they may not have otherwise met. They allow users to learn about individuals or groups without having to deal with the social awkwardness that happens in face to face meetings and can give us an insight to people that they may not have openly divulged.
The services provided on social networking sites assist us with doing all of this. They make it possible to create a personalized network of contacts, share interests, view personal information, maintain blog pages, and have the capability to upload audio, pictures, and video, all in the same place. We can also easily correspond and interact with other members through commenting, messaging, chatting, bulletins, and personal status posting abilities.
Furthermore, social networking sites provide entertainment services, such as online games, through applications from other websites. They also make it easy to acquire information on particular subjects through website links shared by friends. In addition, a computer isn’t always needed since much can be done from mobile devices. Overall, it is impressive to consider all that is brought together on social networking communities, so it is no wonder they are so widely used in our society.
On the other hand, there are downfalls to social networking on the internet. There are dangers of fraudulent predators that steal people’s identities and make claims that are untrue in order to scam money from people. There are also the problems of online stalking and harassment, which can be easily done since finding people online, is relatively easy.
If a member senses a problem it should be reported to the website immediately, they should implement the features of blocking another user, and or change their password, depending on the problem occurring. Also, while networking people should use logic regarding giving out their personal information and investigate before doing so. Additionally, a parent should be taking on the responsibility to monitor what their children are doing on social networking sites and implementing safety measures as necessary, although this is becoming more difficult since kids have become technologically savvy.
However, if a child is engaging in potentially dangerous activity there is always the options of banning the use of the internet and taking away all the devices that they have access to. In conclusion, it is important for people to become informed users of internet social networks and use that information to protect themselves by making knowledgeable choices.

Other than the entertainment value and the possibility of connecting with people with the same background and like as you do, online communities provide a chance to get exposure for you and your website. I think that's what online marketing people are after - the ability to form trust-based relationships even before your product or service is needed. That way, you will be the first to come to their mind should they think of your niche.
