Christian - What is the Web 2.0 Church?

The Changing Church
Web 2.0 is a term which refers to the social networking phenomena which has taken over the internet. It refers to online information sharing in its various forms and has generated an online culture which has influenced our society. Web 2.0 focuses on relationships and group interaction For the most part, today's churches have ignored this culture shift -- to their detriment. More specifically, people with a pastoral calling should take a look at Web 2.0 as a paradigm for a new kind of evangelism, discipleship, counseling and spiritual community support.
The world has changed and the church must change with it. It is a mistake to think that traditional church cultures are in fact more biblical or Godly than some of the newer cultures. Churches should reflect the positive aspects of the society where they exist. Philosophies and personal approaches need to be seen for what they are... and that they are not set in stone. In particular, many present day models of church function have allowed spiritual and emotional abuse. They have victimized the victim and bullied the helpless under the pretext of God's authority. This all needs to be seriously addressed.

Right now, many conservative Christian churches still don’t allow women to preach in their pulpit or participate in governmental leadership. Most Conservative Christians believe that God has ordained the roles of men and women to be different in the Church. - 2 weeks ago

- Are There Apostles Today? by Dr. Kluane Spake
Dr. Kluane Spake www.kluane.org – spake@mindspring.com Are there modern-day apostles? Acts 3:21 assures us that before Jesus comes again, a reformation and restoration will happen. This promised event will restore truths lost during the Dark Ages. Over the years, we see how God has begun to restore major Scriptural truths. Several important truths that were lost have now been [...] - 2 months ago
Inter-action!
Where free communication is absent, oppression can and usually does result. Web 2.0 provides a model for churches to create powerful interaction between members. Improved communication can also be developed between congregants and church leaders.
Used correctly, without gossip, judgment, and manipulation, we can use the internet to minister to Christians who have been wounded. Web 2.0 can also be used to minister to Christians currently attending churches but still need deeper bonds with their brethren. How often do we hear of people who go to church on Sunday and then never see anyone from church until the next Sunday? Certain groups (such as single parents), can be even more isolated than others. Online communications can help pave the way for more personal relationships.
Most churches have websites to inform their members of important times and events. However, they also need to move to forums or message boards. The ability for individuals to communicate in private forums in both open and closed threads, can assist them in their spiritual journey as well as in their relationship with each other and their pastor. This interaction also makes teaching, mentoring and guidance of devotees easier than ever before.
There's no doubt that the old fashioned, top down authoritarian approach has lost acceptance in this Web 2.0 world. People want to be free to express an opinion and to engage in discussions and debates. There is no reason why this should contravene the tenets of Christianity. If anything, it more closely adheres to them. The sharing of ideas can and does contribute to greater understanding.
Web 2.0 can provide your church with a transformative experience. Let's trust God!
Web 2.0 is a means of infusing new life into the church. Are you ready to make the change?

While, generally speaking, little has been written about Web 2.0 from a church point of view, some excellent books concerning this necessary societal reformation and transformation can be found on my website listed below.

We are tired of the religiousity and traditions that man offers to us. The only time I had that kind of opportunity is when I lived in Guam at Jubilee freedom in Christ Church. The word was good not watered down, there were signs and miracles, the fellowship was outstanding and best of all we had a Pastor who truly walked in integrity and loved us, she fed us meat!! not a bag of hot air with no substance. In the middle of trial my pastor did not waver nor did she leave us like alot of the churches have going on. Women had the freedom God intended for us to have in our walk in Him. Tell me where can I find such a church in the USA? There are lots of us who are looking for a place to belong and grow and become everything we were destined to become and free from man's doctrine and dogmatic practices.

With the fragmented isolation of our society today, could be a good way to draw in the strays. I must confess to being one of the many who is disallusioned by the modern day version of "playing church".
