Funeral Order of Service Layout

The layout of a funeral order of service program will vary depending on the type of ceremony you have chosen for your loved one. If it is a faith based theme, the following items are generally included in the funeral order of service.

It's best to discuss the order of service with your pastor or clergy as some religious denominations have a specific order designated within the ceremony. The Catholic Church is a good example in that it follows a specific order of the service mass which includes a viewing, communion and gravesite service.

In Catholic worship, all in the assembly are encouraged to sing and to participate in the fullest possible way. The funeral order of service program assists attendees who may not be familiar with the songs during the service by publishing the lyrics within the program. Generally, the funeral order of service opens and begins with a special prelude music or hymn.

A message of hope or opening scripture reading is given by the clergy or family member generally begins the funeral order of service. A eulogy can be read in place of an opening message for an opening reading.A non-religious funeral order of service program will present special songs, poetry, and secular selected readings.A close friend may present the opening reading or you may elect to have the officiant do so.

A time of sharing may be given for anyone wishing to express and share a memory of the deceased to all attendees. You can also choose to have a video slideshow presentation to share special memories of the deceased through photographs throughout his life. This would include photos of the deceased from their early life to before death.

A video slideshow is not necessary but some opt to give this presentation because it is one way of sharing life events in chronological order. A memorial table can be an alternative means to display photographs throughout the life of your loved one if you are under a short timeframe. The memorial table consists of photos simply displayed on a bulletin board or to a more elaborate scrapbook presentation.

Most, create a collage and place it within the funeral order of service program. By placing photos within a funeral program, it provides attendees a memorial keepsake that is kept and cherished for years to come.
