Why Organic Skin Care Products Have Become the Method of Choice for Healthy Skin
69Certified Organic Skin Care: Why "Natural" Products Just Aren't As Good
Okay, so what are "certified organic skin care products?" And how are they different from, and better than, the "all natural" skin care products in your medicine cabinet right now?
As you stroll down the beauty aisle at your local drugstore or department store, you probably see dozens of products labeled "natural" or "all natural." And there's a good reason for that. More and more, people are realizing the great benefits there are in using natural, organic products, including organic foods, organic cleaning supplies, and organic beauty products. And the makers of these products know that many consumers will be more attracted to their products if they see the word "NATURAL" on the label.
But not all "natural" products are created equal. And just because a product has that word on its label doesn't mean the product doesn't contain synthetic ingredient that could be harmful to your body.
So a product being "all natural" just isn't enough, especially when it comes to beauty products. Instead, you want to look for certified organic skin care products.
The Word Natural Can Be Misleading
There are no real regulations on when and how a company can use the word "natural" on product labels. So, basically, these companies can slap the word on almost anything and pretty much get away with it.
The next time you pick up a product that uses that word, turn it over and read the ingredients list on the back. You might be surprised how many ingredients you find that you can't even begin to pronounce. And that's usually because they are synthetic ingredients that are far from organic.
It turns that the word "natural" carries very little actual weight, and should mostly be ignored when you are shopping for beauty products.
What are Certified Organic Skin Care Products?
So, what makes certified organic skin care products so different, and why should you believe it when you see it on a label?
Well, a company can't just slap those words on a label to attract more buyers. In fact, in order to be labeled "certified organic," a product must adhere to a long and involved list of rules and regulations.
How organic a product has to be varies from country to country, and depends on the country doing the regulating.
In the United States, the USDA demands that a product be at least 95% organic.
In Australia, Germany, and many other European countries, the product must be at least 95% organic.
In Canada, a product must be at least 70% organic.
The Seal of Approval
Once a product has passed the test, and been found to adhere to the guidelines, it is "certified organic." And, as proof, each unit of that product is given a seal consumers can look for when searching for truly organic products.
So, when looking for certified organic skin care products, look for this seal. If a product doesn't have a seal, chances are it's not very organic.
There is no denying the benefits that come with using truly natural beauty products. And using certified organic skin care products is one way to ensure that what you are using is truly natural.

Organic Skin Care Vs Synthetic Skin Care: Why Natural Is Better
Organic skin care vs. synthetic skin care. It is a battle that seems to have been going on for years. Proponents of all natural, organic skin care products insist that natural is better. On the other hand, the makers of skin care products that contain synthetic ingredients insist that their ingredients aren't harmful, and that the products themselves produce results equal to those found in organic products.
So, who is right?
Well organic and synthetic skin care products pretty much do the same things. The only question is what kinds of ingredients they use to produce the same results. Are the ingredients natural or chemically based? And which one is better.
So which skin care products would win the Organic Skin Care Vs Synthetic Skin Care battle? Examining the ingredients used can give you some answers.
Preventing Dryness
Both organic and synthetic skin care products contain ingredients called emolliments that are designed to protect the skin from things that can damage it, like harsh weather, sun exposure, and pollution. Emolliments form a sort of barrier on the surface of your skin, almost like protective armor.
The problem with protective emolliments is that they do the job almost too well. Imagine spreading a layer of wax on your skin. True, it would keep things that could dry out your skin, like harsh winds, out. But it would also prevent your skin from breathing. So, in effect, these synthetic emolliments smother your skin.
Natural emolliments (like avocado, cocoa butter, and shea butter) manage to protect your skin without smothering it. Not only that, but these organic ingredients have the added benefit of containing nourishing products that will actually make your skin healthier.
Humectants Keep Skin Moist
Keeping your skin moisturized is an important part of keeping your skin healthy and young looking. Ingredients called humectants are used in skin care products to prevent moisture loss. Basically, they trap in the skin's natural moisture.
The problem with synthetic humectants is the same as that with synthetic emolliments. While they trap in moisture, they also smother the skin, and don't allow it to breath.
On the other hand, organic humectants not only hold in your skin's natural moisture without smothering the skin, they have another amazing benefit. They actually attract moisture from the air, and use it to add even more moisture to your skin. This natural hydration contributes to the look and health of your skin.
Making the Product Last Longer
Synthetic, or chemical, preservatives have gotten a bad wrap, and for good reason. Studies have found that, while they can make a product last longer, come synthetic preservatives can also be harmful to those who use them.
Organic preservatives (like tea tree oil, grapefruit seed extract, and bitter orange extract) are natural. Not only do they not have harmful effects, they actually have many benefits. For example, tea tree oil has many healing properties.
So, in the Organic Skin Care vs. Synthetic Skin Care debate, which one is the winner? Well, for every synthetic ingredient used in skin care products, there is a natural, organic ingredient that does the same thing. And, because those synthetic ingredients can have harmful side effects, natural, organic ingredients are the safer, healthier alternative.
How To Choose Organic Skin Care Products
How Organic Skin Care Products Can Re-Vitalize Your Skin
When we are born, our body has a natural healing process. And, when we are young, it is hard at work. Not only does it keep our skin moisturized and hydrated, it also keeps it toned and firmed.
Sadly, as we get older, our skins natural healing ability might not work as well as it once did. As a result, our skin can start to lose its firmness and elasticity, become dry and dull looking, and develop fine lines and creases.
Wouldn't it be great if there was a way to wake up our skins natural healing abilities?
Well there is?
Organic products, and their natural ingredients, have been proven to have many benefits. And one thing organic skin care products do is revitalize and rejuvenate the skin.
Reduce the Signs of Aging with Organic Skin Care
Antioxidants can help prevent, and even reverse, the signs of aging. And organic products, which contain ingredients that haven't been treated with toxic pesticides or fertilizers, have more antioxidant benefits than ingredients that aren't organic.
Users of organic skin care products report a reduction in the visible signs of aging. Their skin becomes more radiant and elastic, and fine lines begin to fade away.
Increase Skin Regeneration
Your skin is a delicate environment. Throw off the balance of that environment, and the result can be dryness, skin irritation, redness, blemishes, and other skin problems.
Synthetic or chemical ingredients can disrupt the balance of your skin, stripping it of essential oils, interfering with its ability to breathe, and causing unpleasant reactions.
Your skin is more accepting of natural ingredients, and is less likely to react badly to them. Users of organic skin care products find that many of the skin problems and conditions they suffered with while using non organic products soon begin to disappear.
Natural Rejuvenation
Your skin was designed to rejuvenate, to keep perpetually healing itself. As your outer layer of skin cells become tired and worn, they are replaced by new, healthier, younger looking skin.
For those in their twenties or early thirties, this process can take about a month. But, as we get older, the process begins to slow down, and become less efficient.
The natural ingredients in organic skin care products have been found to revitalize this process, waking up your skin's natural ability to heal and regenerate.
And what's the result? Users of organic skin care products almost feel like they've turned back the hands of time as their skin returns to the way it was ten or even twenty years earlier. Skin becomes smoother, brighter, and firmer. It is more hydrated and less prone to dryness. It is more elastic and resilient. Basically, the skin not only looks healthier, but is healthier.
A lot of beauty and skin care products seem to be focused more on covering up skin problems, or fixing them temporarily. But the natural ingredients used in organic products heal the skin, and can actually get to the route of your skin care problems. Just as eating healthy, organic foods can result in a healthier body, organic skin care will result in healthier skin.
Why Organic Skin Care Products Have Become the Method of Choice for Healthy Skin
"Organic" seems to be one of the big buzzwords now days. Many people eat a diet that consists of nothing but organic foods. Many others use only organic products to clean their homes and tend their gardens. And still others use only organic skin care products, and other beauty products, to tend to their personal grooming needs.
When something is "organic," it means it is as natural as possible. Not only are the ingredients in organic skin care products natural (like avocado and tea tree oil), they were also produced naturally. This means, among other things, no chemicals, pesticides, or synthetic fertilizers are used on the herbs, fruits and other ingredients found in organic skin care products.
So, we know what organic products are. But what are the benefits of using these types of products to take care of your skin.
Here are just a few.
Less Chance of Suffering an Unpleasant Reaction
Have you ever tried a new synthetic moisturizer that left your skin itchy, gave you a rash, or made your skin red and irritated? If so, there is a good chance you were having a reaction to some chemical in that moisturizer.
Synthetic skin care products contain chemicals that your skin might react to in unexpected ways. And, unless you have a degree in chemistry, reading the label to try to figure out exactly what you are reacting to, and what you should avoid next time, can be a real challenge. In fact, some of the ingredients in synthetic products are almost impossible for the average consumer to even pronounce.
Organic products are made from natural ingredients that are unlikely to cause your skin to react badly. Read the label, and you will know exactly what's in it. (Things like cocoa butter, aloe, water, jojoba, and tea tree oil.) There's something comfortable about using cleansers and moisturizers that contain ingredients you can actually pronounce.
Great for Those with Sensitive Skin
Those with sensitive skin know how difficult it can be to find products that won't leave their skin feeling irritated, tight, or dried out. And the chemicals found in synthetic products, even those advertised as being extremely mild, can just be too harsh for sensitive skin.
Products that are organic are perfect for those with this skin type because there are no chemicals, preservatives, dyes, perfumes, or anything else that could damage or irritate their skin.
Organic Skin Care Is Just As Good
Some might think that the chemicals found in synthetic products have properties organic products don't have. But that's just not the case.
For every chemical used to do something specific in a synthetic moisturizer, there's a natural ingredient that can do the exact same thing, but without irritation, or damage with long term use. In fact, the organic ingredients can usually benefit and nourish the skin in ways their synthetic counterparts cannot.
There are many good reasons why people are tossing synthetic products, and turning to organic skin care products instead. And the biggest, most important reason is that all natural products are just better for your skin. And healthier skin is more beautiful skin.

Comments
I agree with the majority of what you are saying but I disagree with a couple of comments.
Using a product that is natural does not guarantee less allergies, in fact my experience has been the complete opposite. More people get allergies to natural products than synthetic.
All ingredients whether natural or synthetic are classed as a chemical. Even water is a chemical, so chemicals are not bad.
Synthetic emollients and humectants may act as a barrier on the skin, but natural oils also damage the skin. Oils which are high in oleic acid which includes almond oil, apricot oil, olive oil, peach oil etc have been shown clinically to actually promote abnormal keratinisation and this leads to moisture loss from the skin. So they are actually damaging the skin not improving it. Something natural advocates keep out of the limelight.
I agree there can be problems with preservatives but I don't want a product that has a shelf life of only 3 months and that is the reality of using a preservative like grapeseed extract. If the product you are using has a shelf life longer than that then it is contaminated with other antimicrobials and is not natural.
I think anybody given the choice of natural over synthetic would normally choose natural. My response is to educate consumers that just because it is natural does not mean it is better. There are natural products and then there are natural products who have actually researched extensively to make sure they are using nothing that is a problem
