So you have a family, a good job, nice house and your k-9 companion that has been with you for a number of years.  He has been as much as part of the family as your wife and kids.

And then the unthinkable happens! You find yourself with no job and unable to pay your mortgage, and your car payments. They in time foreclose on your home, repo your cars.  You find yourself facing being homeless and broke, worrying about how to feed and provide a home for your family. You can stay with friends or perhaps you have enough savings to rent a place but you decide or are unable to keep your pet. what now!

You find the shelters are full and are having to euthanize many dogs in order to make room. Not a good place for your pet to go!  Perhaps you can place a ad in the paper to find a new home for your pet.   Many people who are into fighting dogs get a lot of dogs this way. They use these dogs as bait [training] dogs.  And they sometimes will pay $50 or more dollars for these bait dogs. This would be a terrible thing to happen to anyones family pet! What can you do? A lot of people are dumping their pets to fend for theirselves! Not a good thing to do to your loyal family pet. That is most certainly animal abuse and neglect!

            Here are some solutions.

Check out your local shelters, ask them about their adoption programs and if they are a no-kill shelter.

Ask family members and or friends who has the room and a stable income if they would care for your pet until you got back on your feet. Or if they would want to have your pet.

Check out your states no-kill shelters and see if they have a place for your pet. This might involve a road trip to take your pet to their location but your pet would not lose his/her life if no one adopted him/her. No-kill shelters provide a home for animals for as long as it takes to find a new home for them, or they live at the shelter if they are not adopted out.

So always remember there are choices for your family pets. Make the right one for their sake!

Make good choices for your pets!

Do you think our current animal abuse laws are working?

  • yes
