The many different outdoor thermometers and how you can get Darth Vader in your back yard

Whether you live in Orlando, Florida; Cape Town, South Africa or Timbuktu, Mali, when it’s hot or cold, you want to know how just HOW hot or cold it really is. For this you need mercury. No, not the planet that is closest to our sun, but the mercury found within an indoor or outdoor thermometer.

There are many different outdoor thermometers available. You get the basic clear, tubular shaped outdoor thermometer; that is usually calibrated in both Degrees Celsius and Degrees Fahrenheit. However, thousands of other shapes and sizes exist. When next you drive past a sporting complex, school or large electric company, take note of the LCD screen that displays their announcements and updates. Most of these screens will also display the outdoor temperature. Thus, you can even find thermometers that link with computer systems to process the newest and most accurate data possible.

When setting up your outdoor thermometer, be sure that it will never be exposed to direct sunlight, as this will damage the mercury, and skew the temperature readings. It should be kept in a place that will protect it from the elements, and cast a shadow on it through the entire day.

You can find tons of decorative outdoor thermometers. From antique clocks with thermometers attached, to hello-kitty designs or even Darth Vader shaped outdoor thermometers.

You can find large display outdoor thermometers that are big enough to be seen from your porch/kitchen – some of these are larger than a normal stop sign! For the more modest person, small thermometers that can easily be kept out of sight are also readily available.

Certain outdoor thermometers have additional functions, such as displaying the time, showing the humidity or even recording the wind speed.

You can be sure no matter what your need, or what the design of your garden, you will find an outdoor thermometer that will suit your needs explicitly.
