Waking up in a house surrounded with lush green grass and precious plants and flowers is surely a nice way to start the day. Spending a sunny day at your beautiful yard, sipping some refreshing drinks is indeed relaxing and can certainly take your mind off stress and work. It is no wonder that many homeowners work so hard to care and maintain their lawn, and keep it as beautiful as it is.

This is because they do not consider it as a chore but see it more as a worthwhile pastime in which they can reap numerous rewards. One of the most prominent benefits is enjoying the lush green scenery that can do wonders in enabling you to relax and recharge yourself.

But as we all know, lawn care is not that simple. It entails time, energy and effort to do it and to do it right. There are many different aspects of lawn care. Some of the most important ones include fertilizing, controlling of weeds, mowing, and watering. To help you ensure that your lawn is properly maintained, here are practical tips on the different aspects of lawn care.

Fertilizing

We all know the magic of fertilizers-how they are able to make plants grow healthy and strong, how they are able to make these plants stay in the pink of health. It is not any different with the grass as it is also an effective way of making the grass greener, thicker and healthier.

Most types of grass will benefit from four to five applications of fertilizer every year. Start early spring about 30 days before the growing season starts and continue through the growing season until autumn. It is important to note however that you must not put too much fertilizer because this can lead to excess growth and weakening of grass, as well as formulation of fungi.

Weed Control and Mowing

Weed Control

Although it is a tedious chore to pluck out weeds, your main motivation will be to remove these weeds because they compete with the grass for nutrients. By eliminating them in your lawn, you can help the grass thrive more healthily. Aside from that, weed control is essential not only to maintain the good health of your lawn but also to keep the grass looking beautiful and smooth. Weeds sticking out of the grass are certainly an eyesore.

Mowing

Proper mowing means trimming the grass, not making it go bald. A common misconception by many people is that you should mow the lawn down to its scalp but in reality this can lead to thin and dying grass and shallow root systems. Eventually, all your grass will just die out.

Watering

Also an important part of caring for your lawn is daily watering. A good way to water your lawn is by using an underground sprinkler system so that watering can be done daily without having to drag hoses or hand sprinklers throughout the lawn as these can certainly take the whole day. It is important however to make sure that you do not overwater your lawn.

More tips:

1. Buy nice patio furniture to accentuate your lawn. A chair and a table as well as outdoor fireplaces are essential to make your yard look even more homey and inviting.

2. Place patio furniture in strategic positions that will not hamper the growth of the grass.

3. Do not let children pick out the grass or do anything that can harm the plants in your yard.

Taking care of your lawn is hardly a chore especially if you know the proper ways of doing it.

A nice lawn makes your whole house look better and actually improves the home's value. If you want to sell your home and people pull up to a weed infested yard or ratty looking grass, they are going to think twice abut even looking at the house.
