Can you call depression a disease? This is the question that many people are asking. Some believe that it is a disease while others believe it is not. One thing is for sure, regardless of whether it is a disease or not it can certainly ruin a person's life. It can cause major problems in school, on the job and in relationships. Depression can cause you to lose friends and loved ones. It is a real problem that needs to be treated accordingly. It is not something that will just go away or get better on its own and it is not something that a person can just get over. If depression is not treated properly it can lead to chronic depression and in many cases suicide.

A depressed person experiences moods of sadness and low self-esteem. They can feel like they don't deserve to be happy or feel like they should not even be allowed to live. It can completely interfere with a person's ability to function properly. A person suffering from depression feels like all is hopeless and even simple task are impossible to complete. Life has no meaning, no color and no appeal. This can also include insomnia, losing sleep over what is causing this depression. This is why so many chronically depressed people end up taking their own life they feel it is the only answer. Fortunately, suicide is not the answer. Depression can be reversed when it has been diagnosed and you begin proper treatments.

One reason there is so much controversy over whether or not depression is a disease is because the word depression covers so much territory. In other words, some people misinterpret being worried or stressed out over everyday problems as being depressed. There is a difference between emotional feelings and a state of depression even though some of the symptoms are very similar. Deep depression is much more than emotional feelings and can very well be considered a disease.

The biggest concern surrounding depression is not whether or not it is a disease but whether or not you are receiving proper treatment for the condition. It is a serious problem that needs to be addressed and taken care before it escalates out of control.

Overcoming depression can be simple or complex, here are a few tips that can help you get started eliminating depression from your life. Start by finding someone to talk to. If you do not have a friend or loved one that you feel you can confide in then talk to a professional. Start eating healthier and yes, this does make a difference. The better you eat the better you feel in all areas. Begin an exercise program to help you feel and look better, this will also help to relieve depression symptoms. If you still need help, then antidepressants may be an option. However, only use these under the advice of a doctor.

I also wanted to believe that Omega-3 would help. But I have to say that it didn't have much effect. Not for me anyway. I also read that exercising helps too. So healthy way of life is ...well healthy.
