Bill Owens, just elected from the 23^rd district of New York made campaign promises as they all do. The voters in New York are crying foul play because Bill Owens broke 4 campaign promises in his 24 hours as a Representative. Now as the newest member of Congress it may be that Pelosi got him in a head lock or maybe he just lied the whole time. After all, his lips were moving.

He had assured voters that he felt the public option had no place in the health care bill, but he voted for it. It won by a vote of 220 to 215. Mr. Owens also assured people that he was firmly opposed to cutting Medicare benefits, taxing health care benefits, and increased taxes on the middle class in any way. The House Health reform bill contains sections that cut Medicare benefits, tax existing health care benefits, and increases taxes, all of which he said he was opposed to during his campaign.

“Numerous amendments were added between October 29 and last night's passage of the bill. These amendments were consolidated into a 42 page ‘Manager's Amendment’ and were automatically passed at the same time HR 3962 was approved last night,” according to The Courier Times of New York. These have not been made available to the public at this time.

Furthermore, the Associated Press stated this morning that House leaders said in keeping with the ‘Hispanic Caucus’, there in not likely to be any prohibition added to the health bill against illegal immigrants obtaining for health care. The bill does contain specific language that allows illegal immigrants to be covered under this legislation. In a speech made by President Obama to Congress Rep. Joe Wilson was severely chastised for calling the President a liar, but it seems a few people now owe Joe Wilson an apology.

Those 215 who voted for this bill will hopefully get voted out in their next election. Be sure you know who your Representatives are and there lists on line as to how they voted.
