Bristol Palin's Pregnancy: A Political Bombshell
67"Palin Pregnancy Rocks Political World". This is the headline of a report released by ABC News. Yet, there are many Republicans supporting Bristol Palin's pregnancy and Barack Obama, the democratic presidential nominee seems to be indifferent. This is reportedly being done to show that Sarah Palin is a "real" person who deals with hardships every day instead of being all about glitz and glamor, as the media wants to portray her. Hold on. Aren't Republicans supposed to be opposed to pre-marital sex and pregnancy?
According to ABC political strategist Matthew Dowd, "Republicans will look at this like it's primarily their family's business and the fact that they're keeping the baby underscores Palin's personal commitment to life issues". So, this demonstrates that Palin is pro-life which is a traditional and fundamental Republican belief.
However, Dowd cautions that "This is not a bad thing unless it becomes the first in a series of revelations that makes this look like the last of the wild Alaskan sort of thing". So, what's the negative side of a pro-life person? According to Dowd, if this is the only thing that the Republicans were hiding, they may escape unscathed (i.e. perhaps this won't be classified as "a scandal"?). However, if there are more extramarital affairs, sex before marriage, etc., then the Republicans are in trouble.
Surprisingly, democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama offered a shockingly vague response to Bristol Palin's pregnancy. Obama said in a statement that a family "is off limits and people's children are especially off limits", adding that his mom had him when she was 18. Hey, Barack, you blew a golden chance to attack McCain and Palin about not following party fundamentals. Not having sex before marriage is a Republican fundamental. You should attack this just like you attacked the number of houses that John McCain owns several weeks ago! When your mom had you, there was little, if any education about sex, premarital sex and STDs nor were there condoms and this girl is running around and doing crazy stuff and you're not going to say anything about it? This was a golden chance for you to attack McCain and Palin and address "family values" and you blew it.
A number of Republican delegates are also surprisingly supportive. According to Donna Crocker, a Texas delegawte, "I think the fact that Palin is out in front with it is really a very good thing. The fact that her daughter's keeping it (i.e. the baby) and marrying the father is wonderful. It's a human life and she is respecting that". However, how did this "human life" come about? It was made possible by immature, premarital sexual behavior that goes against Republican ideology. In other owrds, Bristol Palin is essentially saying to the guy, "Hey, I slept with you and now I'm carrying your child so let's get married". That's liberal behavior, not conservative.
According to Angie LaPlante, an Oklahoma delegate, "This is absolutely the best thing that they could do. This is the best thing, pro-life decision and it shows (that) (Sarah) Palin is being supportive". Finally, here's a statement that suggests that Bristol Palin's move to keep the baby is politically motivated as her mom is an outspoken abortion critic, a critical general election issue.
According to Grover Norquist, an anti-tax activist says that the Palin is "over the moon" that Bristol is keeping her baby, adding that "Before, they were excited about the Down's Syndrome baby, but now, with this, they're over the moon. It reinforces (the fact) that the (Palin) family lives its pro-life values", but the questions are: do the Palins follow through on their abstinence values and are they "over the moon" about how the baby was conceived?
.According to Chuck Donovan, executive vice-president of the Family Research Council, "They seem to be doing the right thing on both counts, having the baby and marrying the father. God bless them both". Hm. How did this baby come about?
Dr. James Dobson, President of Focus on the Family, offered a balanced perspective: "Being a Christian doesn't mean that you're perfect. Nor does it mean (that) your children are perfect. But it does mean that there is forgiveness and restoration when we confess our imperfections to the Lord. I've been the beneficiary of that forgiveness in my own life countless times, as I'm sure the Palins have". So, this guy, a doctor, has also committed adultery/had an extramarital affair?
Meanwhile, Jill Hazelbaker, urged the media to practice restrraint: "It was part of Governor Palin's vetting, but I want to make it very clear (that) we expect the media will afford Bristol and Governor Palin the exact same privacies that they have afforded to candidates past. Bristol Palin - is not running for vice-president, her mother is". Hey, Jill, it's a free world and do you remember the famous saying: "What you do reflects on our family". This is what Bristol Palin should be told. She is a big girl, old enough to take responsibility for her own actions and understand that the media has an obligation to report this stuff and sometimes, the truth is something that she doesn't want to hear.
There are also rumors going around that the Palins decided to make Bristol Palin's pregnancy to refute allegations that Governor Palin pretended to be pregnant in order to cover up for her underage daughter: "The liberal blogosphere spent the last 48 hours attacking Governor Palin, suggesting (that) her child was not her own. ". The truth is: Sarah Palin isn't pregnant at all, Bristol Palin is.
Republican strategist is also defending th Palins saying that if Democrats try to make an issue out of the Palins' personal issues, the strategy will backfire: "American families don't alll live in the perfect sitcom world. She's not a stock person out of the Washington DC show. She's a real person. This shows not only that not only are the Palins a real American family, with all the good times and the tough times (that) families face, it (also) shows that John McCain is an unbelievable standup guy by choosing her". OK. The only way to describe this is "TISF! LMAO!" So, the people in sitcoms only sit around and "real" people run around, doing crazy stuff. What is John McCain then? A "standup" comic?

The Florida guy you're thinking of is MARK FOLEY. Some interesting ideas! As far as this article is concerned, OK, it wouldn't benefit Obama to attack McCain or Palin, but boy did it create a storm of controversy
Yes, you are right about that! Judging from some of the responses to your other related hub, I'd say people are quick to polarize on this issue!
And yes, Mark Foley, the little jerk! My very Republican brother told me ahead of time that my former Repubican representative Dennis Hastert would retire early to avoid being caught up in the fray over how much he knew of this and covered up.

Well, there are lots of inconsistencies in the Republican party, such as Dick Cheney has a lesbian daughter, and that one guy from Florida had sexual dealings with under-age pages. Then there was Larry Craig and now the senator from Alaska under charges of his own making.
Who knew and who kept quiet? We may never know, but it remains out there, hanging over the party in general, which is why McCain is trying so hard to separate himself from the GOP as it has been acting and has been viewed over the past 8 years.
But as I said in your other hub on this subject it will do Obama supporters and surrogates absolutely no good at all to whio uop this issue. Better to leave it to the republican base to debate and decide lest someone unintantionally drive undecided voters to McCain in sympathy over the poor young lady's dilemma.
