Well here I am an average guy who is allways tired. My wife says I wake up choking all the time and my snoring is unbelieveable! Well I never heard myself snore so I actually blew her off, "yea-yea whatever." Well she made a tape! Now thats the conversation at family get togethers! Every women I know and love is having a private little conversation with me, "You need to tell your doctor."

I don't go to the doctor unless I'm so sick I can't go on. Well I did and it's physical time!

He did everything and I mean everything!( I'll never be the same) Well a couple things really stood out but one in particular. My testosterone level was so low it almost was nonexistant! That was wierd! Well it turns out thats a problem.

I was scheduled for sleep-studies. The first one was to watch me sleep. First they connected me with lots of wires. While they were doings this I could hear this loud noise in the room next to me. So I asked the technician and she said thats a woman in for a sleep study, Yikes! She kinda sounded like a Harley! I swear the walls we're vibrating!

Well it turns out we we're in perfect harmony all night! About 5am the technician woke me up and de-pluged me and I headed home thinking thats a waste time. Well turns out my doctor calls me in and tells me,"You have Sleep Apnea!" Well what the hell does that mean? It meant another night at the sleep place and this time I would wearing some equipment.

They came in and explained it all to me and away we went for about an hour and they woke me up! Too many leaks! I was readjusted and told goodnight again. An hour later the tech comes in and says we need to try a chin strap. Whats a chin strap for? Well to keep your mouth shut, I explained this two my wife later and she said one wouldn't be enough! She's a funny lady!

It turned out I needed a mask the strap was only marginally effective.(my wife wasn't surprised she knew they would need two) The mask was fine but I still wasn't convinced this was all necessary. So, when it was time to get my very own CPAP machine I blew it off. I continued to snore and now a new development, if I sat for a minute I fell asleep! I mean everywhere! The movies, dentist, my truck, desk, church and everywhere! Well the worst thing happened I had an accident I hit the side of semi with a flatbed trailer. No one was hurt thank God but my truck was totaled! I really coundn't remember what happened because I was asleep! It turns out there are a lot of people killed in accidents like mine for the same reason!

Ok, it does take me longer than most and I loved that truck. Well I got my machine and I'm going to give it an honest try and I'll post my results as I have them as well as any other signifigant aspect that comes up. If you have my problem don't wait to have an accident get to your doctor for some help. Bye for now!

Hello Mr Rock Solid ,

Its almost funny the hub I read of your talks about a car wreck. That really is a problem. I have heard of sleep apnea and I hope this machine of yours will help.

Stay safe and by the way thats a pretty entertaining hub.

Hey Akycrawler! Thanks for stoping by! Yea it's a real tale I hadn't had even a ticket in almost 20yrs.! I was in an industrial park and I was only going about 15mi.per.hr. but the momentum and shear size of the semi toof off the front end of my truck. If you have snorers in your family get'em in! See you around!

my ole man suffers from sleep apnea, but he's tried to CPAP and said he couldn't sleep anything on his face, can't say as I blame him, but he has other sleep disorder, restless leg syndrome, periodic limb movement, (depression causes him to not be able to fall alseep and diabties 2 causes him to have to get up every 2 hrs to get something to drink) are his underlying causes.

I enjoyed your hub and glad that your wife finally knocked some sense into you. Too bad you had to wreck your truck in the process. Good Hub!!! Franki

Hope your CPap is working out. Sleep Apnea is dangerous, my sister in law died because she knocked off her mask in her sleep and stopped breathing. If you don't wear it, your heart can overwork trying to compensate, causing it to enlarge and eventually get hard (think hard abs that are worked out) and can become too hard to pump, you end up with serious heart problems sometimes untreatable. Good Luck! I wish you the best...

A loved one of mine has this sleep apnea. When he loses weight, uses the machine, and exercises, it subsides a bit, and he has a better restful sleep pattern.

You know, for the people around you, it's hard as well. I look forward to our plethora of movies on our list to watch, but when he strays from the machine/diet/exercise, he falls asleep within the first few minutes of a movie. Quite frustrating to me when I look forward to watching our movies together! Good luck, please try to stay safe, my son is also a truck driver, and accidents even from others go on their daq report. Not good for anybody! But again, good luck, try to keep that machine on, and stay safe for your fretting family memebers! :) (and fellow hubbers;)

Sleep tests - been there, done that, got the Cpap. It's awesome! I think I might kill someone if they tried to take it away. Hope you have great results, too, Sneako.
