Pest control for ants

One of the most common household pests is ants. Ants can be found from coast to coast but are most prevalent is southern warm climate states. Ants will invade any dwelling that gives them access to water or food. There are over 12,000 different species of ants and can be found in nearly every country of the world.

Ant bites can be very painful and can even cause death if the person bitten is allergic, very young, or has a weak immune system. Ants do carry out an important role in or ecosystem but when they invade your home they can be hard to get rid of without the help of a professional. Your best defense against any pest including ants is to seal your home as tightly as possible, with caulk and sealants in every possible opening. Keep your kitchen clean and seal inviting foods in clean plastic containers. Pest prevention is always easier than pest control.

If you do find your home invaded by ants, we would recommend placing baits directly in the line you see the ants following. Baits will be carried into the colony for all of the ants to ingest, and hopefully killing enough so that the remaining ants leave the area and your home alone. Different baits work better than others depending on the species of ant and the time of year. We recommend sweet baits to start with as these are effective with most species of ants. While you are placing the ant baits you should also make note of where the ants are entering your home and seal the crack as soon as possible or you will be inviting future invasions.

It is not usually necessary to use insecticides indoors when treating and ant infestation. Usually a thorough cleaning of the infested areas with a mild detergent, being careful to clean all trails the ants follow will be sufficient. We always recommend doing everything in your power to cure the problem before applying any form of pesticide.

If you have done everything in your power to rid your house of ants but are still being infested then please call a local pest control professional before applying any pesticides yourself. Your local professional will understand the exact requirements of eliminating your problem with the least amount of possible harm to your family and our environment.
