Giving meds to pets.. sad, but necessary

Medicating our small family members can be difficult. They don'thave the ability to tell you what's wrong, what feels better, but as per the doctor's request, here you are trying make it work. Your Fluffy will not go down without a fight!!!! So as with any parental ethics code, falls tough love..

I practice this all the time with my Beans. Once upon a time I had to fly out to Florida and decided it would be too cruel to have her lonely and looked after by a stranger for ten days. So I decided she'd come along. We took our much resisted trip to the Vet to get shots and tranquilizers for the plane ride. She was a virgin on air!

To make a long story short, half an hour before I left my home, I placed Beans on my lap, with one hand placed under her jaw, my fingers gripped around the crack on the side of her mouth and gently nudged to purse them open. Once I got a peak of the sexy fangs, I proceeded to open further spreading her jaw wide... and ploop! I drop half a tablet in her mouth. I held her mouth closed till she swallowed a couple of times and vwalla! Followed by a little water and kitty treat. You're done!

Yes, I felt guilty, like our mother-kitty relationship would suffer temporarily, but she seemed kinda cool in a sedative state. She enjoyed the ride and once we arrived to Florida she had the pleasure to meet my mother's large Akita dog. Let's just say I never saw Beans again as she ran off to the garage and hid the entire vacation!

But look at in on the bright side.. Beans wasn't completely terrified on her ride in the plane to the sunshine state, where she hid from it all!!

Wow, your cat is really good to pill that way. My oldest cat foams at the mouth until the pill comes back out! It's awful!!!

Hide the pill in peanut butter and let the dog/cat lick the peanut butter off your fingers. Works like a charm (though I will say it works better with dogs!)

Thanks for answering my request! Our little dog Earl has epilepsy (just diagnosed). That bugger holds the pill between his teeth and spits it out, even when I think he's swallowed it. I like the peanut butter idea, maggie. Must try that!

Do pill-poppers work for dogs?
