I am frustrated photographer. Ahahahahaha!!! I don't even have a decent camera. I sold my Nikon D40 to buy a new one but never got around to doing it. Financial problems have a way of destroying material dreams... But never the dream. Ahahahaha!!! If you have spared a few seconds browsing my "hubs", most of them are about cameras. Because one day I'm going to have a DSLR camera.
Anyway... back to the topic at hand. I recently discovered... actually stumbled on a form of exercise that I seem to be really liking. I call it a photo walk. More of like a digital photo essay in motion. Everybody can do it as long as you have a camera.... a digital camera.
So how do you start one? Here's how. I'll put it in bullet form so my Hub looks long... if that's ok with you my dear reader.
- Plan it according to your schedule. Preferably with a holiday after the photo walk day.
- Clean your camera. Charge your battery. And bring spare batteries and memory cards
- While cleaning your camera, think of a drop point. e.g. Near the slums, in the city, in the woods.
- Bring your mobile phone too... just in case you fall off a cliff or get swallowed by a snake
- Inform at least two people your plans. Make sure these people don't come with you because it would be pointless. Ahahahahaha!!!
- Sleep early. Stop writing Hubs and just sleep.
- Wake up early just before the morning magic hour. Magic hour is the best time to take a photo i.e. light condition are at it's best. Usually the first and last hour of sunlight. :-)
- Take a bath. You'll also going to need it after.
- Pack food and water bottles. Sunblock if your going to the beach or if the day is hot. I think you know what I mean.
- Start driving to your drop point.

The drop of point is were you start your photowalk. For example your drop off point is the beach... (better bring those wide brim hats, apply sunblock... and whatever you think you need for physical protection.)
... so start walking. That's why it's called a photo walk. Snap images of anything that captures your fancy and artistic eye. Since your on the beach... better learn astronomy (the study of heavenly bodies). There seems to be lots of heavenly bodies in the beaches these days... and their swim wear gets smaller and smaller every year. Its the ultimate evidence of global warming.
There are two ways to start your walk:
- Spiral pattern. This is walking in an ever widening circle from your drop of point
- Straight. This following the entire length of a street where ever it goes.
Snap images. Snap more images. Snap more and more images. But of course... be mindful of the traffic and those around you. Finding your self under the tires of truck is not really that good. But then if it happens... don't forget to take a picture of the tire treads.
What do you get from a photowalk?
- Exercise. Something you can't get writing Hubs. Right?
- You get to see the world.
- Sharpen your photography skills
- Meet new friends. You might get to bring a heavenly body home for a model. Ahahahaha!!
- etc. etc. etc.
I recommend this camera if you do not have one. The others in the list (on your right side) you might also need. :-) Oh come on buy all of them and give it to your husband or wife. Ahahahaha!!! Once he or she goes on a photo walk... well peace you'll have...
Below is an RSS feed of some shots I took during my Photo Walks. As for the Digital Photo Essay... it is still under construction. :-)
