Picking the Right Memory Card
56
Finding the right memory card can be frustrating for any consumer. Depending on the device, you might be able to find it on your own. Something like a digital camera or other big purchase that requires a memory card, a sales associate might hand you the right card. Otherwise, you are pretty much on your own. If this is the case, there are several ways to picking the right memory card.
First, do your research before making the purchase. You can find out the type of memory card you need, the maximum amount of memory possible for use in the device and the average price of that memory. From there, you can narrow down your choices and head into a store to find the right memory.
Once you know what type of memory you need, you want to base the purchase on what you will be doing with the memory. Then, you can determine the size of the memory card needed. You want to base this on what you do with your device. For example, if you use a digital camera and you are an avid photographer, a larger memory card may be necessary to keep up with all the pictures you take. If, as another example, you are using a Playstation Portable and choose to transfer music, save files and other multimedia to the device, you may need a larger memory card than the standard 1 GB card for it.
Most memory cards can be bought on a budget, despite the size you are looking for. If you shop around once determining which card is right, you can get the best deal for what you need. By taking the time to understand what you need and purchasing it, you are ensuring the best possible use of your device coupled with the memory card.
